PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Men's and Women's Track and Field teams kicked off their 2024 outdoor season at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invite at the ThunderBowl in a home event hosted by CSU Pueblo.
The Pack had an impressive day on the track and on the field, as CSU Pueblo won seven events total on the day between the men and the women.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior sprinter
Tyrell Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) kicked things off for the Pack on the Saturday invite as he won the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.42 and bringing home an NCAA Provisional Time. Smith also won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 21.08 and another NCAA Provisional Time.
The 4 x 400 Relay Squad of
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton),
Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge),
Kaleb Tipton (Lawton, Okla./Lawton), and Smith won the 4 x 400 relay with a easy seven second victory and a time of 3:26.90.
Junior
Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) won the Women's High Jump with a mark of 1.57 meters.
Grad.
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) continued his historic career as the thrower easily won the Men's Shot Put with a mark of 17.96 meters and an NCAA provisional throw. Jenks also won the Men's Hammer Throw easily with a mark of 56.98 meters.
Junior thrower
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) continued her dominant season as she won the Women's Shot Put with a mark of 15.31 meters and brought home an NCAA provisional throw.
Sophomore
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) had a strong performance in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 25.06 to bring home third place. Junior
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) had a great run in the 800 as she finished second place with a time of 2:14.23.
Junior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux) continued her fantastic 23-24 campaign as the distance runner finished second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:46.44.
Sophomore thrower
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) continued her historic season as the younger thrower finished second in the Women's Discus with a mark of 41.30 meters. Wessels also finished third in the Shot Put with a mark of 13.50 meters.
Junior thrower
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) finished second in the Women's Hammer with a mark of 50.25 meters.
In the Men's Javelin, sophomore
Moosah Alsaffar (Auroa, Colo./Grandview) brought home second with a mark of 49.40 meters. Wessels had a strong performance on the women's side with a throw of 35.22 meters.
