Women's Lacrosse Records Season Highs in Goals, Shots and Draw Contols in Win at Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse began its two-game trip to Ohio here Monday with an impressive 17-9 victory over Lake Erie College in a non-conference game at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 1-2 on the season, while Lake Erie falls to 3-5 on the season.

The 17 goals were a season high for the Pack and the most goals scored in a game by the Pack since tallying 21 goals in a 21-5 win last season at Erskine. The victory also snapped an 11 game losing skid for the Pack since that 21-5 win on March 21, 2023.

Along with scoring 17 goals, the Pack also recorded season highs in shots with 31 and draw controls with 20 and they led 12-0 at the half. That 12-0 lead at the half was its largest halftime lead in a game since leading 13-0 at the half in that win last season at Erskine.

In Monday's game, the Pack got goals from eight different players as sophomore attacker Elise Magree (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) led the way with four goals and added an assist for five points, while graduate student midfielder Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), graduate student attacker Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) and freshman midfielder Reese Wasmund (Portland, Ore./West Linn) each tallied three goals.

The Pack jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period thanks to three goals by Lessick, two goals by Magee and goal by senior midfielder Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) that was assisted by Lessick.

Leading 6-0 after one period, the Pack added six more goals in the second period to push its lead to 12-0. In the period, the Pack got two goals each from Magee and Sargent, while the other two goals came from Wasmund and freshman attacker Clara Drinkwater (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown).

LEC would get on the scoreboard thanks to an unassisted goal by Madelyn Goodrich just a little under five minutes into the third period. In fact, LEC scored three of the four goals in the third period to cut the Pack's lead to 13-3. The Pack's lone goal in the period was scored on a free position shot by junior attacker Annebelle Hollandbeck (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg).

In the fourth period, the two teams combined for 10 goals as the Pack scored four times thanks to two goals by Wasmund and single goals by Sargent and sophomore attacker Audrey Allendorf (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls).

LEC got three goals from Brooke McNeal and Goodrich added two goals in the loss.

Lessick (7), Sargent (5), Mee (5) and Magee (4) combined for 21 of the Pack's season-high 31 shots in the game.

Freshman goalie Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) had a strong day in the cage for the Pack as she played the first half as she made four saves and did not allow any goals to pick her first win of the season. She also added two ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Pack held a 20-9 edge on draw controls as Lessick picked eight, while Mee and Wasmund each had four. Mee also had four ground balls and caused a turnover on the day.

CSU Pueblo was 5-for-7 on free position shots and was 4-for-6 on clears. LEC was 2-for-6 on free position shots and 2-for-6 on clears.

The Pack will conclude its two-game Ohio trip with an 8 a.m. MT game on Tuesday, March 12 at Tiffin University.
