TIFFIN, Ohio - Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse concluded its two-game trip to Ohio here Tuesday morning by scoring a season-high 23 goals en route to posting a 23-11 win over Tiffin University in a non-conference game at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.
With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 2-2 overall and have their first two-game win streak since winning three striaght games to close out the 2019 season. Tiffin falls to 2-5 with the loss.Â
For the second straight game, the Pack offense exploded as one day after recording season highs in goals, shots and draw controls in a 17-9 win at Lake Erie, the Pack offense was even better on Tuesday against the Dragons as they scored a season high 23 goals and also recorded season highs in shots (49) and draw controls (22).Â
The Pack offense was paced by graduate student midfielder
Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), who scored a school record 10 goals and added an assist for a school record 11 points. In addition to Lessick's school record 10 goals, senior midfielder
Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) tallied five goals and sophomore attacker
Audrey Allendorf (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) added three goals. Allendorf also had two assists for five points. Sophomore attacker
Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) added two goals and two assists.Â
Graduate student attacker
Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) and freshman midfielder
Reese Wasmund (Portland, Ore./West Linn) each had three assists as the Pack recorded a season-high 14 assists in the game. The 14 assists were the most in a game since last season against Erskine.
The Pack scored 13 goals in the opening half to lead 13-8 at the half and then put the game out of reach in the third period as they outscored the Dragons, 8-1, to push its lead to 21-9 heading into the fourth period. With the clock running in the fourth period, each team only scored a two goals each to set the final margin.
Tiffin jumped in front 2-0 just 2:30 into the game, but the Pack came right back and used back-to-back goals by Lessick to tie the game at 2-all with 11:38 left in the opening period. Tiffin would score two of the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead with 8:45 left in the period, before the Pack closed the period with three straight goals to take a 6-4 lead after one period of action.Â
Lessick got the scoring started just two minutes into the second period to give the Pack a 7-4 lead. Tiffin, though, used a goal by Katelyn Jarvis to cut the Pack lead to 7-5. The Pack responded with four straight goals by four different players to take an 11-5 lead with 6:50 left in the period.Â
Tiffin would answer back with three goals of its own to pull within 11-8 with 3:50 left in the period, before the Pack used goals by Wasmund and Lessick to take a 13-8 halftime lead. Lessick's goal came with 11 seconds left in the period and the Pack in a man-down situation.Â
In the third period, the Pack scored eight goals with four of them coming from Lessick. Along with Lessick, Allendorf scored two goals in the period and the other two goals came from Mee and freshman attacker
Clara Drinkwater (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown).Â
Mee scored both of the Pack's goals in the fourth period to cap the scoring. Tiffin also scored two goals in the final period.Â
Lessick (10), Mee (9) and Wasmund (9) combined for 28 shots and put a combined 26 shots on goal. Sargent added seven shots and Allendorf took six shots. Tiffin had just 31 shots in the game.Â
Mee and Lessick dominated on the draw control as they each had 10 each in the win. Tiffin had 14 draw controls.Â
Freshman goalie
Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) won her second straight game in the cage as she had 11 saves and added a ground ball and a caused turnover. Â
The Pack also held a 17-13 edge in ground balls as Lessick and redshirt freshman
Lani McCombs (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) each had three ground balls. The Pack also tallied seven caused turnovers in the win as Tiffin finished with 17 turnovers.Â
The Pack were also 18-for-20 on clears, while Tiffin was 17-for-19 on clears.
Tiffin got four goals from Jarvis, while Brenna Bohan, Casey Kumiega and Lauren Walsh each had two goals in the loss. Jenay Rennie took the loss in goal for the Dragons as she played 45 minutes and made 19 saves and allowed 21 goals.Â
The Pack will return home this weekend to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 15 against Westminster at 12 p.m. and will host Colorado Mesa, who earned votes in this week's ILWomen/IWLCA Division II poll, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.Â
