GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team comes in at No. 2 in this weeks' National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association South Central Region Poll.
This is the highest regional ranking in Head Coach
Bobby Applegate's' tenure.
Head Coach
Bobby Applegate said "Our guys have earned that, they have been playing really well." In reference to today's loss to St. Cloud State Applegate said "This is just a small hiccup and not a setback by any means, we are going to continue to keep playing hard baseball."
Today's loss does not affect this weeks' regional rankings. St. Cloud is not a South Central Region member. CSU Pueblo is 9-3 on the season and is coming off a 4-0 week with a win over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and a three-game sweep of Colorado Christian University.
With the 4-0 week, the Pack move up from fifth place to second place in the rankings.
The South Central Poll is a combination of teams from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the Lone Star Conference. The NCBWA is not an official NCAA poll.
West Texas A&M remained in the top spot in the polls. The Buffaloes accumulated eight first place votes with 80 points to go along with their 10-2 record.
CSU Pueblo is the highest ranked RMAC School as the Pack come in second in the polls with 62 points and a 9-2 record.
LSC schools take spots 3-5 in the polls as UT Tyler is ranked third with 54 points and a 9-7 record, while Arkansas-Fort Smith is fourth with a 9-3 record and 53 points. Defending NCAA Division II National Champions Angelo State comes in fifth with a 9-7 record and 50 points.
Colorado Mesa is the other RMAC School in the top six (six teams advance to regionals at the conclusion of the regular season) with a 6-6 record and 49 points.
Lubbock Christian is seventh with a 9-7 record and 32 points, while UT Permian Basin is eighth with a 9-7 record and 25 points.
Regis is the last of the RMAC schools in the polls as they come in ninth with an 8-7-1 record, receiving 16 points, while Texas A&M-International rounds out the polls in tenth with a 9-9 record and nine points.
