Women's Basketball Scores 49 Second Half Points in Earning 66-52 Road Win Over Western Colorado

Little Scores 29 Points, Including Tallying 14 Points in Fourth Quarter

GUNNISON, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball used a strong second half here Saturday afternoon to post a 66-52 come-from-behind victory over Western Colorado in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Paul Wright Gymnasium.

With its fourth straight win, the ThunderWolves improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC, while Western Colorado fall to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC. The 2-0 start in RMAC play is the first for the Pack since 2021-22 when the Pack opened league play 3-0.

The Pack, who trailed by as much as 11 points at 28-17 just 47 seconds into the third quarter, would outscore the Mountaineers from point, 49-24, including outscoring the home team, 28-10 in the fourth quarter.

Redshirt senior forward Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado) was one of the big reasons for the Pack's hot fourth quarter as hit four of her game-high seven treys in the period and finished with 14 of her game-high 29 points in the quarter. Along with her 29 points, she added 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and 35th of her career. The 29 points pushed her career total to 1,280 points, which is seventh-most in school history.

The Pack entered the fourth period trailing 42-40 but opened the period by scoring the first 12 points to take a 52-40 lead. The run was capped by back-to-back treys from Little. In fact, WCU's first basket of the period came with 5:47 left in the period on a bucket by Rachel Cockman.

Following Cockman's basket, Little scored five straight points, including a trey to give the Pack a 57-49 lead with 3:12 left in the game. Senior guard Yara Garcia (Scottsbluff, Neb./Western Nebraska CC) drilled a trey from the corner with 2:39 left to give the Pack a 60-49 lead.

After Jayda Maves hit a trey with 2:14 left to bring the Mountaineers within 60-52, the Pack would hit six free throws in the final 33 seconds to seal the victory.

In addition to Little, senior guard Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) added 12 points and four steals, while Garcia finished with seven points on the day.

The Pack would outscore the Mountaineers, 23-19, in the third period to cut their halftime deficit to 42-40 heading into the final period. In the period, Little scored eight of the Pack's 23 points.

After scoring a season-low five points in the first quarter, the Pack opened the second quarter on a 10-6 run to tie game at 15 following a lay-up by sophomore forward Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek).

The Mountaineers, though, would outscore the Pack 14-12 in the second quarter to take a 23-17 halftime lead.

Western Colorado was led offensively by Natalie Jojola, who tallied 13 points, while Maves finished with 11 points and Jayde Tschritter tallied nine points in the loss. Cockman had eight points and 10 rebounds as the Mountaineers held a 36-33 edge on the glass in the game.

The Pack defense forced Western Colorado into 18 turnovers that led to 14 Pack points, including forcing seven turnovers and scoring eight points off those turnovers in the second half.

While WCU had 18 turnovers, the Pack finished with seven turnovers and had 10 steals. WCU had five steals and 12 assists on the day.

For the game, the Pack shot 40 percent from the field and made a season-high 11 3-pointers as they shot 48 percent from the 3-point line. Meanwhile, Western Colorado shot 39 percent from the field and 43 percent from the 3-point line.

The Pack will look to make it five straight wins as they return home to Massari Arena next Thursday, Dec. 12 as they host Chadron State for a 5:30 p.m. RMAC game.
