Women's Hoops Continues Hot Streak; Wins Fifth Straight Over Chadron State

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball team defeated Chadron State College on Thursday Night 72-61, improving their winning streak to five games.

With the win, the Pack improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while Chadron State falls to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

CSU Pueblo was led by Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado), as the two-time All-American had 23 points on 9-18 shooting from the field. In addition, Little pulled down 12 boards to put together another career double-double, recorded three blocks, and had two steals.

Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./Wyoming) had a productive night, dropping 13 points, including three threes. 

Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./FGCU) continued her fantastic play, scoring 11 points, dishing out four assists, and recording three steals.

ABOUT THE WIN

CSU Pueblo dominated from start to finish, only trailing in the first 30 seconds of the game. Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) got the ThunderWolves on the board first with a couple of free throws. Hudson hit her first three of the game two and a half minutes in to tie the score a 5-5, propelling the Pack.

The ThunderWolves took their first lead of the game with Johnson drilled a three, putting the Pack up 8-7.

The Eagles did not make it easy in the opening quarter, eventually taking a 14-13 lead, but that was short lived as the Pack finished on a 7-3 run to end the quarter up 20-17.

The Pack eventually exercised their dominance in the second quarter, extending their lead to eight at 32-22 with buckets from Little and Tosjanae Bonds (Denver, Colo./MSU Denver).

CSU Pueblo took their biggest lead of the game at the end of the quarter when Yara Garcia (Scottsbluff, Neb./Western Nebraska) made an acrobatic layup just before the buzzer sounded, giving the ThunderWolves a 12-point lead at halftime at 39-27.

The Pack came out strong in the third quarter, extending their lead to 19, including a 7-0 run to end the third, including back to back threes from Hudson and Johnson, giving the Pack a commanding 63-43 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Head Coach Tommie Johnson was able to take his foot off the gas as the Pack showed no sign of slowing down. Chadron State cut the lead down to 13 at the 7:24 mark, but the ThunderWolves answered with an 8-0 run with buckets from Little, Bonds, and Hudson, putting the game out of reach at 72-51.

With the game out of reach, the Eagles did make a late run to make the score respectable, ending on a 10-0 run the final 4:54, holding the ThunderWolves scoreless.

The Pack had too big of a lead for the Eagles to overcome. CSU Pueblo eventally took the game 72-61 to remain undefeated in conference play.
