Volleyball Complete Reverse Sweep On Senior Night

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball team completed a massive comeback on Saturday Night to defeat Fort Lewis College three games to two on Senior Night at Massari Arena.

The ThunderWolves honored three seniors, Josey Nunn (Kingwood, Texas/Porter), Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State), and Sabrina King (Parker, Colo./Lutheran) to cap off their careers.

With the win, the Pack improve to 15-9 on the season, and 8-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while Fort Lewis falls to 9-15 overall, and 5-7 in RMAC play.

The ThunderWolves were led by Kaitlyn Hall (Colorado Springs, Colo./Falcon), who went off for 17 kills on the night.

Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful) had 27 assists on the night, tying her career-high.

Golden Finch (Albuquerque, N.M./Cal State Bakersfield) anchored the defense for the Pack, recording eleven blocks, also while recording 10 kills to pick up the double-double. Maddox Richtmyre (Surprise, Ariz./Willow Canyon) had 20 digs for the ThunderWolves to complement Finch.

CSU Pueblo fell down two games to none, and it looked like it was going to be a less than eventful senior night, however the ThunderWolves had different plans.

Down 2-0, Head Coach Austin Albers, looking for a spark, turned to his ever so reliable swiss army knife off the bench, Taylor Cary (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon).

Cary entered the match and brought instant energy that propelled the ThunderWolves to a dominating third set victory 25-15.

Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove), who was having an off-night to her standards up until the third, brought the energy, leading the Pack with four kills, while hitting .667 in the third.

The ThunderWolves continued to play inspiring volleyball in the fourth set, feeding off the Massari Arena crowd, and behind their big guns, Hall, Cary, Finch, and Scoville.

The four big swingers accumulated for 12 kills in the fourth set, winning big once again, 25-13 to force a fifth set.

In the fifth and final set, the Skyhawks jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, looking to snatch the momentum from the ThunderWolves, but that did not happen.

CSU Pueblo reeled off three straight points from a Kendall Schmitz (Lee's Summit, Mo./Arkansas-Fort Smith) dump, a Cary kill, and an error from Fort Lewis.

The Pack took an 8-6 lead at the fifth set break, and did not let their foot off the gas, extending their lead from 8-6, to 13-8.

Cary polished off the comeback with a booming kill from Richtmyre to eventually win the fifth 15-11.
