COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleball Team picked up a big road win on Friday night, defeating the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs three games to one.
With the win, the ThunderWolves stay alive to obtain the third seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Pack sit in fourth place with a 16-9 overall record, and a 9-4 record in conference play. South Dakota Mines sits one game ahead of the Pack, with the Hardrockers traveling to Colorado Mesa tomorrow night.
The ThunderWolves were led by
Taylor Cary (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon), and
Kaitlyn Hall (Colorado Springs, Colo./Falcon) on the offensive end, both recording 15 kills.Â
Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful) led all players in the assist category, as the freshman dished out 31 assists to continue her impressive freshman campaign.
The ThunderWolves came storming out the gates, easily winning the first set 25-19.Â
UCCS countered in the second set, bouncing back with a close 25-22 win to even the match at one game apiece.
The third set is where things got wild.Â
Long story short, the Pack won the set 40-38 to take a two games to one lead.
CSU Pueblo found themselves down on the brink 24-22, but reeled off two clutch points from
Josey Nunn (Kingwood, Texas/Porter), along with a hitting error from the Mountain Lions to extend the match.
Neither team could get to the two-point advantage, until Cary reeld off two straight clutch kills to eventually give the Pack a 40-38 third set win.
The fourth set was in full control of CSU Pueblo, as the ThunderWolves wore out the Mountain Lions, winning the final frame 25-21, as their All-American,
Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) finished off UCCS with the kill.
