Shooting Woes Sink Women's Basketball at UT Tyler

Pack Opens 0-2 for Third Straight Season

TYLER, Texas – Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball shot just 24 percent from the field and 19 percent from the 3-point line as the ThunderWolves fell 66-41 to UT Tyler in the final game of the South Central Regional Challenge at the Herrington Patriot Center.
 
With the setback, the Pack falls to 0-2 overall, while UT Tyler improves to 2-0 on the season. The Pack has now started 0-2 for the third straight season.
 
The game was close early as the Pack held a 12-11 lead just six minutes into the first period following a trey from senior guard Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./University of Wyoming). The lead was the first of the season through the first two games of the 2024-25 season.
 
Following the lead, UTT would outscore the Pack, 10-7, over the final 2:40 of the opening period to hold a 21-19 after the first 10 minutes of play.
 
In the opening period, the Pack shot 55 percent (6-for-11) from the field and 3-for-6 (50 percent) from the 3-point line but would make just five of its final 35 shots from the field and two of its final 21 3-pointers.
 
Hudson was one to two Pack players to score eight points in the game as sophomore guard/forward Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) also tallied eight points. Stewart scored a career-high 10 points in the Pack's season opener on Friday against Lubbock Christian.
 
One day after playing just 19 minutes after fouling out, senior two-time All-American forward Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) scored seven points and five rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Little was called for one foul in Saturday's game.
 
In the second period, the Pack was held without a made field goal as they were 0-for-11 from the field and 0-for-8 from the 3-point line but stayed in the game thanks to a 5-for-8 from the free throw line to trail 32-26 at the half. Stewart and senior guard Tosjanae Bonds (Denver, Colo./MSU Denver) were each 2-for-2 from the line in the period.
 
The second half belonged to the Patriots as they outscored the Pack, 34-17 to set the final margin. UTT won the third period, 16-6, and also won the fourth period, 18-11.
 
In the second half, the Pack shot just 5-for-24 from the field and 2-for-13 from the 3-point line, while UTT was 12-for-25 from the field and 5-for-12 from the 3-point line.
 
UTT was paced by 18 points from Meagan Mendazona, while Enisa Kamerolli added 13 points and eight rebounds and Polina Latysheva tallied 12 points in the win.
 
While the Pack struggled to shoot the basketball, UTT finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field and 34 percent from the 3-point line.
 
The Pack outshot the Patriots 23-17 from the free throw line as they were 14-for-23 (61 percent) at the line, while UTT was 11-for-17 (65 percent).
 
UTT outrebounded the Pack, 41-33 as Stewart led the way with six rebounds.
 
Both teams struggled to take of the ball as the Pack committed 22 turnovers that led to 26 points for the Patriots, while UTT had 18 turnovers.
 
The Pack also had nine assists and UTT had 13 assists.
 
CSU Pueblo will look to rebound next weekend (Nov. 15-16) as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville and Missouri Western at Massari Arena in their first two home contests of the season. The Pack will open its home schedule on Friday, Nov. 15 with a 3 p.m. game against Texas A&M-Kingsville, before hosting Missouri Western at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
