Little's Double-Double Leads Pack To Home Opener Victory Over A&M Kingsville

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball Team got back on track, winning their home-opener in front of the Massari Arena crowd, 62-50 over Lone Star Conference member Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 1-2 on the season, while A&M-Kingsville falls to 2-1 on the young season.

CSU Pueblo had two players in double-figures, Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado), and Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./Wyoming), while the Javelinas had Logan Borchardt score 14 points, and Abby Bala scored 12 points.

The Pack were led by their two time All-American Little, as she left off right were she did one year ago, recording a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. In addition, she also had five blocks, four steals, and two assists.

Hudson shot the ball well, going 4-9 from deep, and 5-13 from the field to put together 15 points on the evening.

Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) made her season debut, establishing her well-known defensive presence, recording two blocks on the evening, while mostly guarding Kingsville's best players on the perimeter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The ThunderWolves got off to a quick start as Hudson knocked down a three to start the contest. Genesis Sweetwine (Aurora, Colo./Northeastern JC), and Little both had early buckets and the Pack had an early 9-4 lead to start the game.

A few more buckets from the Pack had their lead out to 15-6, however Kingsville finished the quarter strong on a 10-3 run to cut the ThunderWolves' lead to 18-16 at the end of the third.

The Javelinas took their first lead at 22-21 when Borchardt knocked down a couple of free throws, but that was short lived when Little, and Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) made a couple of shots.

The Javelinas went on another run to end the period, eventually taking a surprisingly halftime lead over the Pack 29-27.

CSU Pueblo came firing out the gates in the second half, opening the half on a 14-4 run to take a 41-33 lead in the second half.

The Pack did not take their foot off the gas in the third, outscoring Kingsville 18-8 in the third quarter, taking 45-37 lead into the final quarter.

The ThunderWolves once again started the quarter on a run, opening up on a 9-0 run with buckets from Johnson, Stewart, and Little.

Up 54-37 and the game pretty much out of reach with six minutes remaining, the Pack slowed the game down, eventually taking home a 62-50 win.
