Volleyball Suffers Saturday Sweep At South Dakota Mines

RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball Team fell to South Dakota Mines three games to none on Saturday afternoon on the road in Rapid City in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod play.

With the loss, the ThunderWolves fall to 13-9 overall on the season, but remain 6-4 in RMAC play. The loss does not count as an official RMAC game, but rather a pod game. 

With the win, South Dakota Mines improves to 14-8 overall, and remains 7-3 in conference play.

CSU Pueblo remains in fifth place in the RMAC. The top six teams advance to the conference team. The two teams met on Sept. 28, in which CSU Pueblo won three games to one. 

The ThunderWolves were led by Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful) on the offensive end, as the Freshman led the way for the Pack with 12 assists.

Braelyn Woodworth (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry) anchored the defense for the Pack, leading the way with 10 digs.

ABOUT THE GAME

CSU Pueblo fell behind early in the first set and was never able to bounce back.

Mines opened up the game up 17-10, exerting their home court dominance over the Pack.

The Pack did have one run in them, cutting the lead to three at 19-16, but that was as close as they would get, eventually dropping the set 25-18.

The second set went just like the first set, as the Hardrockers opened up an early lead, but the ThunderWolves made a late run.

CSU Pueblo shrunk the lead down to three at 21-18 late in the match with a kill from Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State), but were held scoreless the rest of the set, dropping the second 25-18.

The ThunderWolves just ran out of gas in the third, as South Dakota Mines used the home crowd to their advantage, winning the third set 25-15.
