PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse opened the home portion of its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule here Friday by falling 19-3 to No. 3 ranked Regis University of a blustery and chilly afternoon at the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
Friday's game, which was played in wind gusts of at times up 35-40 miles per hour, was just the third home of the season the ThunderWolves and the first of five straight home RMAC contests.
With Friday's setback, the Pack fall to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC, while Regis remained undefeated at 8-0 and moved to 2-0 in the RMAC.
The homestand will continue with a 2 p.m. RMAC game on Sunday, April 2 against UCCS. The Mountain Lions picked up a 16-10 win on Friday at Fort Lewis.
In Friday's game, Regis showed why they are one of the top-ranked women's lacrosse teams in Division II as the Rangers jumped to a 9-0 lead after the first period and led 11-3 at the half. Regis would outscore the Pack, 8-0 in the second half to cap the scoring.
Regis scored their first four goals in the game's opening four minutes and then got two consecutive goals from Lucy Johnson to push in front 6-0 just a little less than six minutes left in the first period. Eight different Rangers scored goals in the opening period.
The Rangers opened the second period with goals by Bailey Truex and Johnson on the opening three minutes of the period to push in front 11-0.
CSU Pueblo, though, would respond by scoring three goals in a span of nearly four minutes to cut Regis' lead to 11-3 at the half. Senior midfielder
Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) got the Pack on scoreboard on her man-up goal that was assisted by freshman midfielder
Katie Broom (Houston, Texas/Spring) with 4:36 left in the second period.

Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia) would score back-to-back goals in a span of 63 seconds to drop Regis' lead to 11-3. Magee's first goal at the 1:57 mark came off an assist from junior midfielder
Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) and her second goal with 54 seconds left was unassisted.
After taking 11 shots in the first half, the Pack were limited to just three shots by the Regis defense in the second half with all those shots coming in the fourth period as the Rangers turned their 11-3 halftime lead into a 15-3 lead heading into the final period and then tallied four more goals in the fourth period.
Magee scored two goals to push her season total to a team-high 15, while Broom and Mee each had an assist in the game. The assist for Broom was her team-leading 11th of the season.
Magee and Broom combined to take five of the Pack's 14 shots in the game.
Regis got goals from 10 different players, including four goals by Johnson and Truex and two goals each from Madaline Schallmoser, Becky Goetsch and Tia Krats. Meg Hansen added three assists and a goal for four points, while Shea Murphy had two assists and a goal for three points and Gabby Rothermund also had two assists for the Rangers.
Regis held a 37-14 edge in shots, including a 33-8 advantage in shots on goal.
The Pack committed 26 turnovers after Regis' defense and were 12-for-21 on clear attempts. Regis had 15 turnovers and was 15-for-16 on their clear attempts.
Regis won the ground ball battle, 7-6, with sophomore goalie
Naomi Price-Burton (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) had two of the Pack's six ground balls.
The Rangers also won the draw control battle, 16-11, including 8-2 in the second half. Broom and senior midfielder
Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) combined for eight of the Pack's draw controls has Broom had five and Sargent finished with three.
Price-Burton played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pack and recorded a career-high 14 saves and allowed 19 goals.
Brigit Goetsch played the first half in the cage for Regis and made five saves, while only allowing three goals, while Elizabeth Myotte played the entire second half in goal and did not allow a goal or make a save.
