ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's indoor track and field team competed this weekend at the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
At the two-day event, which was hosted by the University of New Mexico, the ThunderWolves competed in 12 total events as the men's and women's teams each competed in six events each.
For the event, CSU Pueblo recorded eight NCAA Division II provisional times and recorded season best performances in the women's shot put and the men's 4-x-400 meter relay.
On the women's side, sophomore
Helen Braybrook (Frieston, United Kingdom/Oakham School) recorded 10th place finishes in both the 800-meter Invitational run with a provisional time of 2:11.85 and the mile run, where she ran an NCAA provisional time of 5:01.17.
In addition to Braybrook, who this week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, sophomore
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) and freshman
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) each recorded NCAA provisional marks in the shot put.
Higgins recorded a 20th place with a season-best mark of 14.65 meters (48'0.75"), which is the eighth-best mark in Division II this season, while Wessels had a mark of 14.15 meters (46'5.25"), which is the 18th-best mark in Division II this season.
Sophomore
Ella Harris (Star, Idaho/Eagle) was 22nd in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.42 and 28th in the unseeded 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.56.
Sophomore
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) placed 22nd in the weight throw with a mark of 15.66 meters (51'4.50") and Higgins was 31st in the weight throw with a toss of 14.26 meters (46'4.50").
On the men's side, the 4-x-400-meter relay team turned in a season best performance in the event with an altitude converted time and NCAA provisional time of 3:15.05, which is 19th best in Division II and the second fastest time in the school's indoor history. In addition to the season-best performance in the 4-x-400-meter relay, fifth-year senior
Matisse Virey (Lyon, France) was sixth in the mile run with an NCAA provisional time of 4:13.19.
Senior
Nate Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Widefield) and senior
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) were sixth and 14th respectively in the shot put with NCAA provisional marks of 18.75 meters (61'6.25") for Miller and 16.77 meters (55'0.25") for Jenks.
Tipton was 12th in the 800-meter Invitational run with a time of 1:53.83, while Smith was 32nd in the seeded 200-meter run with a time of 21.84.
Miller and Jenks finished 13th and 15th in the weight throw with marks of 17.49 meters (57'4.75") and 17.35 meters (56'1.25") respectively.
The Pack indoor track and field teams will conclude the regular season portion of its indoor schedule next weekend (Feb. 10-11) as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan., to compete in the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State University.
