Eller Hat Trick and Sargent Brace Not Enough in Pack Loss to UCCS

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 14, 2022) – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse (1-10, 1-6 RMAC) saw a hat trick from Emily Eller and a brace from Sedona Sargent but ultimately fell to UCCS (9-5, 6-3 RMAC) 21-8 Thursday evening.

The match opened up with a quick 3-0 spurt from the Mountain Lions. After a strong possession by the Pack following a UCCS turnover, Baylee Mee received a pass from Caira Lessick and fired in the first team goal of the evening. The Mee goal marked her ninth of the season.

Unfortunately for the ThunderWolves, the Mountain Lions attacked with a flurry of goals. UCCS scored five unanswered goals to claim a 9-1 lead after a quarter, and then continued with six more scores in the second quarter.

With 3:57 to go in the second quarter, the Pack attack came alive. A Mee draw control gave Eller a chance to drive in eight-meter and fire off her 10th goal of the season. Following the goal, the ThunderWolves once again attacked after a Mee draw control. Hannah Huchette received the feed from Mee and snuck in her third goal of the season.

Finally, with 1:02 to go in the second quarter, Ashley Hendricks logged her 23rd goal of the season off a Sargent assist. The three-goal bustle by the Pack brought the score 15-4 at the halftime break.

Out of the break, UCCS fired off three more scores to widen the ThunderWolves deficit. With 7:44 to go in the third, Sargent logged a score and soon followed it up with another goal off an assist by Huchette. The Pack were able to squeeze off one more goal as time expired, as Eller received a perfect pass from Huchette and snuck in her second score of the evening.

The Mountain Lions notched three goals in the fourth to the Pack's one after Eller's third of the day. CSU Pueblo's fate was sealed and fell 21-8 to RMAC rival UCCS.

Eller's hat trick moved her to an even 10 scored on the season and led the home scoring efforts. Huchette helped facilitate the field and dished out two assists. Vivian Reukauf and Samantha Schmidt led the defensive efforts with two caused turnovers in the Pack loss.

CSU Pueblo has a quick turnaround and will face No. 6 Regis University Saturday at noon at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
