Pack Fall to MSU Denver in RMAC Tournament Championship; Davis and Dominguez Named to All-Tournament Team

GOLDEN, Colo. (March 5, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team was unable to hold off a second half run from Metropolitan State University Denver and fell in the RMAC Tournament Championship 76-68. Alisha Davis and Ro Dominguez were named to the All-Tournament team thanks to their three-game performances.
 
The ThunderWolves started the game fired up thanks to a Ro Dominguez 3-pointer to begin the contest. MSU Denver held on and kept it close despite the Pack sinking their first five field goal attempts.
 
The Pack kept it going with JaNaiya Davis sinking a deep 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. CSU Pueblo exited the first quarter with a commanding 21-13 lead over the Roadrunners.
 
The Roadrunners responded in the second quarter and attempted to shift the momentum in their favor. A Dominguez 3-pointer kickstarted the Pack offense with another 3-pointer and the Pack enjoyed a 7-0 run until Metro State responded with a 7-0 spurt of its own.
 
The Pack lead fluctuated between seven and 10 points for the remainder of the half until the Roadrunners hit a buzzer-beating layup at the horn to send the game into the second half with the Pack ahead 35-29.
 
Alisha Davis had 12 points at the break and caused problems for Metro State's offense, as she already had two blocks and a steal to her tally.
 
To start the third JaNaiya Davis knocked down a jumper and began a trading of baskets with the Roadrunners. 
 
With 4:01 to go in the quarter, Dominguez nailed another 3-pointer to swell the Pack lead back to nine points. The Roadrunners burst to another run and got within two points after the third quarter buzzer sounded.
 
JaNaiya Davis nailed a 3-pointer to kick-off the fourth quarter, but the Roadrunners answered with one of their own and soon took the lead with 8:21 to go in the game. The Pack kept the ballgame close thanks to buckets from Tomia Johnson,Jazzy Hughes and Amaya Lewisamong others, but the Roadrunners' offense was hot.
 
MSU Denver made all of its free throws down the stretch and the Pack were unable to turn the momentum. CSU Pueblo fell to Metro State Denver 76-68 in the RMAC Tournament Championship after a 28-point fourth quarter.
 
The Pack claimed the Runner-Up title after a strong tournament performance that saw wins over Black Hills State and Colorado School of Mines over the course of five days.
 
CSU Pueblo was able to tab Ro Dominguez and Alisha Davis to the all-Tournament team thanks to their performances through the five days.
 
Dominguez tallied 19 points in the Championship contest off a career-high five made 3-pointers. Alisha Davis added 17 points to the tally to go with nine rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. 
 
Johnson notched six assists for the Pack while Lewis rounded out the scoring efforts with 11 points paired with six rebounds.
 
The Runner-Up finish in the RMAC tournament is the best for the Pack since 2018 when the ThunderWolves won it. The 20-win improvement from the 2020-21 season is the best in the RMAC and is a CSU Pueblo program record.
 
CSU Pueblo will now look for an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament after falling to MSU Denver Saturday night.
