ThunderWolves Split Doubleheader With Regis to Open RMAC Play

DENVER (March 4, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team (8-8, 1-1 RMAC) split its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) opening doubleheader at Regis University Friday afternoon. The ThunderWolves claimed victory in the opening game 15-6 and then fell 15-3 in the afternoon follow-up.

Game 1 | CSU Pueblo 15 – Regis 6

The opening game of the series saw the Pack jump ahead early after Jacob Federico blasted a solo home run shot to leadoff the contest. Noah Hennings got himself aboard with a single and stole second base during the next at-bat. Hennings was brought home off a Trey Vasquez single to right to total two runs scored in the first.

Tim McIntyre backed up his teammates on the mound retired the next two innings without a problem and sent the game into the third frame with the Pack still in control, ahead 2-0.

In the top of the third innings, Vasquez tallied another RBI after a sacrifice bunt sent Hennings racing across the plate. Brady Prewitt scored off a Rangers error and extended the Pack lead to four runs.

The third run of the third inning came off a Tyson Pallatt single that scored Matt Shea to expand the game to a 5-0 advantage for the ThunderWolves.

After McIntyre shut down the home half of the inning once more, Vasquez pushed in another RBI after a double to right.

The sixth saw more offensive production from the ThunderWolves, as Pallatt drove in Reggie Williams and was later pushed across by a double from Hennings. Prewitt capped off the inning with a two-run deep shot to leftfield and extended the Pack's lead to 11-0 after four and a half frames.

Williams batted home Eddie Rodriguez in the top of the sixth and the Rangers got two back in the bottom half, but the ThunderWolves were still heavily in control.

Prewitt, Vasquez and Rodriguez all batted in runs in the top of the seventh and swelled the Pack advantage to 15-2.

CSU Pueblo coasted from there to the end of the game and clinched the game one 15-6 victory over Regis.

Vasquez led the batting efforts with four RBIs off 3-5 hitting that featured a double and triple. Prewitt logged three RBIs thanks to his two-run blast in the fifth. Seven ThunderWolves had a multi-hit game.

McIntyre recorded his third win of the season after he surrendered only one earned run in six innings on the mound.

Game 2 | Regis 15 – CSU Pueblo 3

The second game of the day was played to a different tune. The Pack jumped on top in the front half of the first with a Ty Lewis singling Prewitt home from third.

Regis responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first and then piled on 13 runs over the next four innings to quickly turn the tables.

The Pack threatened in the top of the sixth but were unable to prevail and headed into the seventh and final slated inning behind 15-1. Vasquez scored Hennings from third base off a single and was followed up by a sacrifice fly RBI from Lewis.

CSU Pueblo ultimately fell to Regis in the second game 15-3 to seal the doubleheader split with the Rangers.

Prewitt led the ThunderWolves on the day, batting 6-8 on the day with three RBIs.

CSU Pueblo squares up with Regis once more Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Field, as the Pack will finish up the four-game series with a doubleheader at home against Rangers.
