Game 1 | CSU Pueblo 12 – MSU Denver 8
Â
The Pack came out of the gate firing on all cylinders.Â
Zach Pratt got the nod on the hill and quickly retired the side in the top of the first to energize the Pack bats early on.Â
Â
The first saw three runs by the Pack.Â
Brady Prewitt batted homeÂ
Jacob Federico to draw first blood in the contest. Two batters laterÂ
Tyson Pallatt came through for the Pack and hit a two RBI single up the middle to score Prewitt andÂ
Noah Hennings.
Â
The quick bats gave the ThunderWolves a 3-0 lead after an inning. After the Roadrunners got a run back in the second, Prewitt kicked off the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly that scoredÂ
Brock Rodrigues. Trey Vasquez logged two RBIs with a single through the left side that crossed Hennings and Federico.
Â
Pratt took care of business in the third and sent the game into the fourth inning with the Pack still ahead 6-1. Eventually, MSU Denver crossed another run in the fourth and the game carried at 6-2 until the seventh inning thanks to Pratt shutting the door off the hill.
Â
In the seventh,Â
Matt Shea kickstarted a big inning after he hit home Pallatt andÂ
Ty Lewis. The Pack continued to string some hits and Prewitt racked up more RBIs for the Pack, as he pushed Federico and Shea across home plate. Vasquez scored Hennings in the next at bat and gave the ThunderWolves a commanding 11-2 lead after seven innings.
Â
Each squad scored a run in the eighth and entered the ninth with the Pack controlling a 12-3 lead.Â
Â
The Roadrunners tried to make a rally in the ninth, but came up short to give the Pack a 12-8 win and a series clinching victory.
Â
Pratt hurled seven innings and claimed his third win of the season after he retired 27 of the 31 batters he faced.Â
Â
The Pack were led by Prewitt's four RBIs and Vasquez's three. Rodrigues andÂ
Reggie Williams each logged three hits in the early afternoon contest.
Â
Game 2 | MSU Denver 14 – CSU Pueblo 3
Â
The second game of the afternoon saw a nearly complete opposite flow of competition. By the top of the second, MSU Denver had already racked up five runs thanks to two homers.
Â
In the bottom of the second,Â
Manny Sierra was able to get a run back for the Pack and doubled home Williams. The ThunderWolves trailed 5-1 after the Sierra RBI double.
Â
The Roadrunners prevented the Pack comeback after they tacked on four more runs in the third and had their starting pitcher, Brad Helton, overpower the ThunderWolves at the plate. Helton sat down nine consecutive ThunderWolves batters and sent the game into the sixth inning with CSU Pueblo trailing 10-1.
Â
The Roadrunners crossed four more runs in the sixth and, despite a single fromÂ
Jaden Hill, the Pack were unable to put together a rally and headed into the seventh still trailing 14-1.
Â
The Pack scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make lessen the blow late.Â
Elijah Borjas singled homeÂ
Zac Hanenberg while Sierra logged another RBI double to score Borjas.Â
Â
The rally was too little too late and the Pack fell 14-3 in the second game.
Â
Sierra highlighted the tough 14-3 loss for the Pack with two RBI doubles while he received the start behind the plate.Â
Â
CSU Pueblo clinched its second RMAC series win of the season after the Pack claimed three of the four games at home against the Roadrunners. The Pack move to 13-9 on the season and 6-2 in the conference.
Â
The Pack are back at it Friday, as the team hosts Colorado School of Mines in a four-game weekend set. The first pitch with the Orediggers is Friday at 2 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
