ThunderWolves Cruise by Huskies With 8-2 Victory

PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 28, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team (6-7) walked away with a strong 8-2 victory over St. Cloud State University (2-5) Monday afternoon. The ThunderWolves were helped to strong outings on the mound that featured 13 strikeouts from four pitchers and a well-rounded effort at the plate that saw 11 hits.

Tim McIntyre got the nod for the start Monday afternoon and started the Pack off on the right foot with quick innings to begin the day. Each team saw scoreless innings through the first four innings, as each squad enjoyed strong starts on the hill. McIntyre struck out the side in the top of the third inning to highlight his afternoon.

The Huskies scored a run in the top of the fourth and did not see a ThunderWolves answer in the bottom half. Keeping in theme with the early innings theme, Edwing Corrales came on in relief in the fifth and overpowered the Huskies' bats.

Corrales tallied all six outs with strikeouts in his two innings of work and pushed the game into the sixth inning with the Pack still trailing narrowly 1-0.

After Corrales struck out the side in the top of the sixth, the ThunderWolves bats were able to wake up. Brady Prewitt led off the inning with a double to centerfield and was soon batted over to third off a single from Noah Hennings.

Ty Lewis soon worked a walk out of the St. Cloud State pitcher and loaded the bases for Trey Vasquez. Vasquez moved the baserunners station-to-station and tallied an RBI after Prewitt crossed the plate.

The next three pitches from St. Cloud State saw trouble for the Huskies. Three consecutive pitches by the Huskies' hurler got by the catcher and all three Pack runners were able to take advantage and cross home plate.

Despite Reggie Williams getting aboard via a well-placed bunt down the third base line, the Pack rally was soon thwarted. After the big sixth, the ThunderWolves jumped to a commanding 4-1 lead.

The Huskies responded with a run of their own in the top of the seventh, but the Pack would not relent their attack.

Eddie Rodriguez and Noah Hennings scored easily from third and second, respectively, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a double down the line from Lewis. The 6-2 lead carried over into the bottom of the eighth after Zach Pratt shut down the Huskies' half.

Williams and Matt Shea found themselves aboard early in the bottom of the eighth with consecutive singles. With two outs Williams and the pinch-running Zac Hananberg were brought home for some insurance runs by Brock Rodrigues' single up the middle.

Charlie Williams sat down the top half of the ninth with no incident and clinched the 8-2 win for the ThunderWolves.

Lewis and Rodrigues led the Pack with two RBIs apiece while Reggie Williams cleaned up at the plate with three singles in four at-bats. Hennings also tallied two hits in three plate appearances while crossing home twice.

Corrales was credited with his first win of the 2022 campaign after tossing two scoreless innings and tallying six strikeouts out of the seven batters he faced. McIntyre's outing did not receive a decision but the senior claimed four strikeouts in four innings on the mound.

The Pack win marks their sixth during non-conference play. CSU Pueblo looks to carry over the momentum into Tuesday's contest against the University of Mary. First pitch against the Marauders is slated for 1 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
