PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 29, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team (16-5, 12-3 RMAC) was able to grind out its second straight RMAC win over Regis University (9-10, 5-8) 76-65 Saturday night.
Alisha Davis logged the second-most blocks in a single game in CSU Pueblo history with seven on the evening.
The game kicked off quick and offensively loaded. Multiple lead changes prevented either team of manufacturing a run in the opening quarter. Davis drained a shot with just six seconds to go in the quarter and put the Pack on top 16-15.
The second quarter opened up with
Ro Dominguez hitting a deep 3-pointer. The Dominguez triple jumpstarted the ThunderWolves offense and opened up a 10-12 shooting performance for the remainder of the half.
The Pack went on an 18-3 run over five minutes and was capped off by a Dominguez 2-pointer jumper. The domineering run allowed the Pack to gain a double-digit 42-29 lead headed into the locker room at the break.
Davis had 21 points at the halftime break while she had already racked up four blocks on the defensive end of the floor.
Regis came out of the half with a refusal to go quietly. The Rangers trimmed the Pack lead to seven points following a 3-pointer with 7:11 to go in the third quarter. A splash from beyond the arch from
JaNaiya Davis grew the lead back to 11 but failed to deter the Regis shooters.
With 56 seconds to go in the quarter, Regis drilled a 3-pointer and dwindled the Pack lead down to six points. A late basket by
JaNaiya Davis extended lead down to nine points headed into the fourth quarter.
After the Rangers got the Pack lead down to six points, the ThunderWolves were able to put Regis back in a hole.
Jazzy Hughes drained a 2-point jumper and extended the lead to 10 points.
The Pack and Rangers traded baskets for the next eight minutes with neither team giving an inch on offense. An
Amaya Lewis dissuaded the Regis comeback and grew the lead with six points after a four-point square with 1:50 to go in the game.
CSU Pueblo was able to put the game away by sinking four-straight free throws and clinched its second-straight win with a final score of 76-65.
The Pack win gave the team its 16th win of the season. After a three-win season in 2020-21, the +13 win-margin is the second-best improvement in program history.
Alisha Davis dropped 25 points on the night to go with her five rebounds and seven blocks. This was Davis' third 20-point performance of the season.
The ThunderWolves were helped to a 14-point performance from Dominguez thanks to her 2-3 shooting from behind the arch. Dominguez tacked on a team-high six assists to help out the Pack.
JaNaiya Davis shot 4-9 from field and totaled 12 points to round out the scoring performances for the Pack offense.
Thanks to the well-rounded performances by the ThunderWolves, CSU Pueblo moves to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the RMAC. The Pack look forward to hitting the road next week, as they travel to Chadron State Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and Black Hills State Saturday night at 4 p.m.
