Pack Bench Shines in 68-42 Win Over Colorado Christian

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 19, 2022) – Thanks to 34 points off the bench, the Colorado State University Pueblo (13-4, 9-2) women's basketball team was able to bounce back Wednesday night with a 68-42 victory over fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foe Colorado Christian University (5-9, 2-6).

CSU Pueblo came out firing on all cylinders defensively and limited the Cougars to only two field goals made in the opening quarter. The Pack started the Wednesday night game on a 12-3 run highlighted by a Ro Dominguez 3-pointer and an and-one basket underneath by Alisha Davis.

Tomia Johnson dropped in another layup and gave the Pack a 14-7 advantage after one quarter.

Headed into the second quarter, JaNaiya Davis and Dominguez splashed home back-to-back 3-pointers and extended the lead to 20-7 early in the period. CCU dug in its heels and cut the Pack lead to eight, but more CSU Pueblo domination ensued.

Jazzy Hughes kicked off a 10-2 run with a 3-pointer which would later be capped by another from Morgan Dial. The Pack led the way into the locker room with a 32-20 lead over the Cougars.

The ThunderWolves were able to hang an 8-2 spurt on the Cougars over the first six minutes in the third quarter. Another Dial 3-pointer gave the ThunderWolves a 20-point advantage for the first time in the contest.

Dial hit another shot from beyond the arch and gave the Pack a 45-30 lead headed into the final quarter of play.

More production off the bench from Dial and Hughes allowed the ThunderWolves to expand the lead back to 18 points. A Dominguez 3-pointer put the lead back above 20 points for the Pack and, from there, CSU Pueblo coasted to the finish.

The ThunderWolves cruised to a 68-42 win over Colorado Christian following the strong performances off the bench.

Dial had her season-best performance thanks to a 4-8 3-point shooting display. The junior logged 14 points on the night to lead all scorers for the ThunderWolves. Hughes logged 11 points off the bench to tally her eighth double-figure scoring performance on the season. Hughes also tallied five rebounds and two assists to help round out her strong night.

Dominguez had a perfect night from the floor after she shot 3-3 from 3-point land and 4-4 from the field to give her 11 points. The transfer junior tacked on two assists and a steal.

Kansas Watts, Aubriana Noti, Sydni Williams, and Alisha Davis each tallied six rebounds to lead the Pack. JaNaiya Davis added on five more rebounds, dished out six assists and nabbed three steals to go with her seven points.

CSU Pueblo led the game from the beginning and never trailed nor relinquished the lead throughout the night.

Following the dominant 68-42 win over the Cougars, the Pack head into the weekend looking to keep the momentum as the team travels to Fort Lewis College Friday at 5:30 p.m. followed by Western Colorado on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
