Davis Double-Double Lifts Pack to 53-34 Victory Over UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2022) – Despite a slow start, the Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team was able to overcome the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions and clinch the season sweep over the conference foe. Junior Alisha Davis logged 16 points and 12 rebounds to log her second double-double of the 2021-22 season.

The first quarter of play was all Mountain Lions. The ThunderWolves offense struggled to get going and UCCS took advantage.

The Mountain Lions dominated the first quarter and limited the Pack to their lowest score in any period this season at six points. Headed into the second frame, the Pack were trailing 18-6.

Head coach Tommie Johnson and the ThunderWolves did not panic and took over in the second quarter.

After a UCCS bucket to start the quarter, Tomia Johnson kickstarted a run for the Pack with a 3-pointer to bring the game back within 10. Jazzy Hughes and JaNaiya Davis piled on points and put the game within three points headed into the halftime break, behind 20-17.

The momentum carried over into the third quarter and the ThunderWolves refused to look back. Headed out of the break, Ro Dominguez nailed a 3-pointer and tied the game up at 20 just 30 seconds into the quarter.

After a UCCS 5-0 spurt, Alisha Davis kickstarted a 14-2 run that would lead the game into the fourth quarter. Alisha Davis was responsible for five of the 14 points scored in the 5:46 run.

Headed into the fourth quarter in control of a 35-28 lead, the Pack looked to put the Mountain Lions away after only allowing two points in the third. Amaya Lewis and Alisha Davis traded baskets to kickstart a dominant run for the ThunderWolves and expand the already large lead.

Dominguez sank a 3-pointer and put the Pack ahead by 13 points with her third 3-pointer of the night and discouraged any chance of a Mountain Lions comeback. CSU Pueblo finished the final 7:51 of the game on a 15-2 run that saw scoring from five different Pack players.

The final run put the win and season sweep on ice for the Pack, as CSU Pueblo clinched a 53-34 RMAC victory over UCCS.

Alisha Davis shined for the second time on the weekend road set and dropped 16 points to go with 12 rebounds and four blocks. This was Davis' first double-double since her return to the lineup.

Dominguez finished the night with nine points thanks to her three 3-pointers while JaNaiya Davis finished with eight points and four steals to go along with her five rebounds. JaNaiya Davis is now second in CSU Pueblo school history with 385 career assists and has cracked the top-15 in all-time rebounds with 510 total.

The ThunderWolves are 4-2 on the road this season and move to 8-1 in the RMAC to mark a second-best league record.

CSU Pueblo looks ahead to a busy four-game set next week as the Pack host Metropolitan State University Denver Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Colorado Christian at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in two make-up games. The ThunderWolves then hit the road once more, as they head to Fort Lewis and Western on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
