FAIRBANKS, Alaska (September 22, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday on the final day of the Nanook Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The ThunderWolves fell 3-1 in the first game of the day against Cal State LA and was swept in straight sets in the last game of the weekend against host-Alaska Fairbanks
Against Cal State-LA, the ThunderWolves took the Golden Eagles to four sets after they went down 2-0 in the match but the stars were not aligned for the ThunderWolves today after taking the third set, Cal State LA sealed the win after the four set.
In the match CSU Pueblo posted 35 kills and a .186 hit percentage.
In set one, CSU Pueblo trailed 9-4 before a timeout by the Pack resulted in the team cutting into the lead and get within four points at 16-12 behind three straight points behind the serve of
Grace Hern (Jr., Omaha, Neb.). The Golden Eagles would side out and won the first set 25-20.
Kasey Jahnke (So., Glendale, Ariz.) led the ThunderWolves in the first set with an .800 hitting percentage and four kills.
Milica Djukic (Jr., Belgrade, Serbia) finished with three kills in the first set.
The second set ended 25-17 in favor of the Golden Eagles. The set was a see-saw game as the teams exchanged points early on when Cal State-LA scored three straight points and was quickly matched by the ThunderWolves 3-0 run of their own, tying the game at 7-7.
Trailing 18-11 midway through the third set, CSU Pueblo inched closer with a 5-0 run and brought the score to within two at 18-16. The Golden Eagles would go on a 7-1 run and wrapped up the second set by a score of 25-17.
Trailing 2-0 in the match, CSU Pueblo won the third set thanks to six blocks recorded in the 25-17 Pack win. The ThunderWolves scored eight kills and committed just one error in the set.
In the fourth set, Cal State LA posted double-digit kills against none recorded by the Pack, sealing the 3-1 victory.
In the weekend finale against host-Alaska Fairbanks, the ThunderWolves fell in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-12).
Overall the Pack recorded a .083 hitting mark against the Nanooks defense.
Hannah Delor (Jr., Marysville, Mich.) led the ThunderWolves with 10 kills.
CSU Pueblo (6-2) will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at home Tuesday against University of Colorado Colorado Springs. First serve is at 7 p.m. inside Massari Arena.
