PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team scored 12 runs in the first three innings of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest against Adams State University, en route to a 15-4 victory to close the league series at Rawlings Field Saturday.
The ThunderWolves (9-15 , 7-13) scored the 15 runs on 14 hits with seven of the runs coming in the third inning. The Grizzlies (5-15, 4-12 RMAC) produced four runs on 10 hits and committed five errors.
Five players produced two hits, while
Reggie Williams (So., 1B, Castle Rock, Colo.) and
JP Hopkins (R-Sr., OF, Chino Hills, Calif.) each had two hits with three RBI. Hopkins also scored three runs, while Williams crossed the plate once.
Senior
Brett Matthews (RHP, Queen Creek, Ariz.) improved to 4-1 on the season after hurling 5.0 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

Player Performances
Williams was 2-for-4 with a double , while Hopkins went 2-for-5, as he produced a double and a triple.
Both
Aidan Welch (Jr., INF, Seattle, Wash.) and
Trey Vasquez (Jr., SS, Greeley, Colo.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Vasquez recorded a triple.
Senior catcher
Daniel Abiles (Chandler, Ariz.) went 2-for-5 with a double and tacked on two runs and an RBI. The catcher totaled 13 putouts and had two assists.
Game Summary
The Pack immediately took advantage of the Grizzlies' miscues and totaled three unearned runs in the first to open a 3-0 lead. Vasquez scored Williams in the inning with a triple and would later score.
Abiles scored in the second after leading off with a double. Hopkins also scored in the inning off a Welch single through the left side. The Pack led 5-1 after two.
Abiles' second hit of the game was a single up the middle in the third that plated Vasquez to start the seven-run inning.
Brandan Maher (R-Jr., 2B, Westminster, Colo.) then singled through the left side to score
Logan Gibbons (Sr., UTL, Taylorsville, Utah), and Hopkins produced an RBI double that pushed the lead to 8-1 and forced a pitching change by Adams State.
Maher ended up scoring on a passed ball, while Hopkins was aided home by a sacrifice fly by Williams. Senior
Kodee Martin (INF, Platte City, Mo.) came home on a wild pitch that moved Welch to third, then on the same play a gaffe by the catcher allowed Welch to score to put the home team ahead 12-1.
ASU scored twice in the fifth, but the Pack got one back in the bottom half when Williams doubled to left center to score Welch. The ThunderWolves made it 15-3 in the sixth went Hopkins tripled to score Gibbons, then came across the plate on the next batter, as Martin singled up the middle.
The Grizzlies added one in the ninth, as the ThunderWolves won the series finale, 15-4.
Next Up
The Pack hit the road to battle New Mexico Highlands University April 9-11.
