PUEBLO, Colo. (April 23, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team suffered a 6-4 loss in 12 innings Friday to open a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home series against Colorado Christian University.
The ThunderWolves (12-17, 10-15) and Cougars (11-17, 10-15 RMAC) were tied 3-3 after nine, then both teams scored once in the 10th to keep the game moving. In the 12th, CCU produced two runs to take the win.
The Pack had 12 hits, while the Cougars had 11.
Senior
Kodee Martin (INF, Platte City, Mo.) went 3-for-6 with two runs scored. He registered a double and a triple.
Player Performances
Ty Lewis (Jr., INF, Pleasant Grove, Utah) also recorded a three-hit game, as he went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
Sophomore
Reggie Williams (1B, Castle Rock, Colo.) drove in two runs, as he went 2-for-5 with a walk.
Catcher
Stone Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Right-hander
Blake Slaymaker (R-Jr., Johnstown, Colo.) had another solid outing as the starter for the Pack, but wouldn't get a decision. He hurled six innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He walked just one and recorded seven strikeouts.
Senior
Andrew Coverly (RHP, Centennial, Colo.) threw five innings of relief. He gave up one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Game Summary
Martin started the bottom half of the first with a lead-off triple to right center and then was brought home on a sacrifice fly to right by Lewis to give the ThunderWolves an early 1-0 lead.
The scored remained 1-0 until the fifth when the Pack added a run to go up 2-0. Romero led off the frame with a double to left. He advance to the third on a passed ball and would score on a
Logan Gibbons (Sr., UTL, Taylorsville, Utah) sacrifice fly to right.
The Cougars responded in the sixth with three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead.
The CCU advantage didn't last long, as the Pack were able to string a couple hits together in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game 3-3.
Aidan Welch (Jr., INF, Seattle, Wash.) reached first on a one-out walk, which triggered the Cougars to take out their starter. The next two batters registered a hit, as Lewis singled to right to move Welch third, then a Williams double to left plated Welch.
The scored remained 3-3 through nine innings and the series opener would head to extras. CCU scored a run in the 10th, but CSU Pueblo wouldn't go down without a fight, as Martin started the inning with a double to left. He would eventually score, as Williams put the ball in play and Martin came around to tie the game, 4-4.
The lone ThunderWolves error allowed the Cougars to have a base runner to start the 12th inning. CCU would take advantage and score twice to open a 6-4 lead. CSU Pueblo was able to get one runner on in the bottom half, but wouldn't score in the two-run loss.

The ThunderWolves continue the weekend with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. (was 2 p.m.).
