ThunderWolves lose to Grizzlies in series opener

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 1, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball lost a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home game to Adams State University Thursday by the score of 12-6. 
 
The ThunderWolves (8-13, 6-11 RMAC) totaled 12 hits, but allowed 16 to the Grizzlies (4-13, 3-10 RMAC) in the loss.  
 
Player Performances
 
The starting three at the bottom of the order finished the game 7-for-10 with two runs and an RBI. 
 
Sophomore Reggie Williams (1B, Castle Rock, Colo.) went 3-for-4 at the dish with one run and a double.  Adrian Martinez (Sr., OF, Tucson, Ariz.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Finally, Brock Rodrigues (So., UTL, Pueblo, Colo.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI. 
 
Junior Aiden Welch (INF, Seattle, Wash.) also recorded a multi-hit game, as he went 2-for-5 with a run scored. 
 
Game Summery
 
The Pack went down 4-0 after ASU scored twice in each of the first two innings, but responded in the bottom of the second when Rodrigues singled to left to plate Williams and a Grizzly error helped Martinez around the bases on the same play.   
 
Adams State scored one in the third to lead 5-2, but a three run bottom half of the third by the ThunderWolves tied the game, 5-5. Welch reached on an error to start the inning and then was brought home by a Logan Gibbons (Sr., UTL, Taylorsville, Utah) double to center. Ty Lewis (Jr., INF, Pleasant Grove, Utah) advanced to third on the play and then scored when Trey Vasquez (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) grounded out to short. Gibbons would score when senior Stone Romero (C, Albuquerque, N.M.) grounded out the third. 
 
ASU kept their bats going in the top of the fourth, as a three-run home run put the road team put them back on top, 8-5. Neither team scored until the Grizzlies rattled off four more runs in the top of the seventh to hold a commanding 12-5 lead. 
 
CSU Pueblo was able to produce one run in the ninth, but would fall 12-6.  
 
Next Up
 
The ThunderWolves Grizzlies continue play Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
