Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

ThunderWolves dominate Shorter, 19-6

ROME, Ga. (March 8, 2021) – Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse posted a dominant performance Monday to earn a 19-6 nonconference victory at Shorter University.

The ThunderWolves (1-1) established a new program record for shots with 65, which included a 25-2 advantage in the fourth quarter. The Pack forced 28 turnovers and picked up 43 ground balls to the Hawks' (2-3) 33.

POSTGAME COMMENT

"Wow. What a fun game to be a part of," said CSU Pueblo Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Sean Blair. "It was great to see performances from our guys that were strong. We made a few tweaks at halftime that allowed us to increase our offensive output and shooting volume."

"We put up a program record 65 shots. There were some outstanding offensive numbers by our attack guys and even one player who came off the bench and immediately cut and was fed an open ball."

"The ability to take coaching and make adjustments on the fly was part of our growth model and we hope to continue to see improvements moving forward as the schedule gets increasingly tougher in RMAC play."

SUMMARY

It was a slow start for both teams, as the Pack got on the board first 3:28 into the game on a goal by Weathers. Twice Steele found the back of the net and with 3:06 left in the first the Pack led 3-0. A goal by the Hawks at the buzzer moved the score to 3-1 at the end of the first.

The ThunderWolves responded with two quick goals to start the second quarter to lead 5-1. Shorter then put the pressure on and scored three goals in less than five minutes of game time to cut the CSU Pueblo to just two at 6-4. Weathers' third goal of the game came with 4:46 remaining in the half, as the Pack entered the break leading 7-4.

The second half was all CSU Pueblo, as the ThunderWolves would score 12 goals and only allow one goal per quarter to the home team.

Owen got things going in the third quarter with a man-up goal 4:47 into the frame and then he scored again just 15 seconds later and the road team was leading 9-4. Logan Naves (Fr., A, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored his first of the season in the third before Weathers and Owen each grabbed their fourth of the night to hand the Pack a 12-5 advantage after three.

Owen again scored the first two goals of the quarter, as the ThunderWolves won the fourth quarter 7-1, en route to the 19-6 victory. The Pack were successful in all areas in that final quarter, as they went 7-for-7 on their clear attempts, won the faceoff category 6-3 and had a 14-9 advantage in ground balls.
