PUEBLO, Colo. (March 6, 2021) – Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball dropped both games of its doubleheader with Regis University Saturday. The Rangers claimed game one 11-3 and took game two 9-6 at Rawlings Field.
Game 1 Recap:
The Rangers (7-0, 3-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored the game's first run in the top of the first. The Pack found an equalizer in the bottom of the first when
Ty Lewis (Jr., Pleasant Grove, Utah) drove in
Kodee Martin (Sr., Elkhorn, Neb.).
However, the Rangers would score the next five runs to jump in front 6-1.
Marco Martin (Fr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) scored a run in the third, but the Rangers would continue to pour it on, takin an 11-2 lead in the seventh.
Adrian Campos (Jr., Mission Hills, Calif.) smacked a home run in the seventh, but the Rangers prevailed 11-3.
Game 2 Recap:
Regis used a five-run first and a run in the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Pack came alive in the third inning, scoring three runs. Campos mashed his second home run of the day to put the Pack on the board.
Trey Vasquez (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) scored on a wild pitch.
Aidan Welch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) drove in
Kodee Martin to make it a 6-3 game.
Logan Gibbons (Sr., Taylorsville, Utah) belted his third triple of the season to drive in
Stone Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) to bring the Pack back within two. Runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, allowed the Rangers to stake themselves to a 9-4 lead. The Pack attempted a comeback in the seventh. Welch knocked in Lewis and Martin to make it 9-6, but the Rangers would stop the Pack's rally and hang on for the win.
Notables:
Campos finished the day 2-for-4 with two solo home runs. He now leads the team with two home runs this season.
Kodee Martin went 2-for-6 with two walks. He also scored three runs. Martin also stole a base in game one.
Lewis had a hit in each game. He now has a seven-game hitting streak to start the season.
Pitchers of Record:
Thomas Alexander tossed a complete game in the first contest to earn the win.
Brett Matthews (Sr., Queen Creek, Ariz.) was tagged with the loss in game one, evening his record in game one. He struck out five batters in three innings.
In game two. Dylan DeLeon earned the win for the Rangers thanks to 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Matt Gotyia (Sr., La Puente, Calif.) suffered the loss for the Pack.

"If you look at the back end of game two, we won the game if you remove the first inning, so that's a positive" said CSU Pueblo Head Baseball Coach
Damian Stambersky. "We've got to be better on the mound. I have to be better at getting them to be better on the mound. The offense just has to feel the momentum come our way. When we have a runner at third and less than two outs, we have to touch a ball fair and we will."
