GOLDEN, Colo. (October 29, 2021) – It was a tough night up in the Denver area for the Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team as the squad fell to No. 12 Colorado School of Mines in three-straight sets on Friday night.
The Orediggers (18-3, 11-2 RMAC) held the ThunderWolves (15-6, 9-4 RMAC) to their third lowest hitting percentage of the season at .155 after recording a season low of 32 kills on the match.
Colorado Mines took an early 5-0 lead in the first set before
Megan Mattingly (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) put the Pack on the board for the first time in the set. The ThunderWolves, however, never found a rhythm in the set registering 10 kills off 36 attempts as the Orediggers walked away with a 25-15 win.
A block from
Josey Nunn (Fr., Kingwood, Tex.) and
Hannah Delor (Jr., Marysville, Mich.) gave the Thunderwolves an 11-8 lead in the second set as both teams never gave an edge. Two Oredigger kills followed by an attack error from
Maddy Wisniewski (Sr. Highlands Ranch, Colo.) gave Mines a 3-point lead that the Pack wouldn't come back from.
That three-point swing followed the Pack into the third set where the ThunderWolves recorded 7 kills off 29 attempts as Mines would walk away with a 25-12 and 3-0 win.
The ThunderWolves were led by
Payton Stack (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) with 8 kills while Mattingly added 6 kills and a team-high 11 digs. The team registered 3 team blocks with
Jazzy Espinoza (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) adding 2 of her own.
The Pack will head up to Nebraska to take on Chadron State tomorrow evening at 6 pm.
