Upset-minded Pack turned away by No. 11 WCU

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 23, 2021) – Colorado State University Pueblo led No. 11 Western Colorado University 46-41 at the half. However, the Mountaineers rallied and came away with an 83-73 victory at Massari Arena.
 
Turning Point:
The ThunderWolves  (1-6, 1-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) used an 11-0 run in the second quarter to take a 42-34 lead. They used this run to carry a 46-41 advantage into the intermission.

The Mountaineers (8-1, 7-1 RMAC) retook the lead thanks to an 11-2 run to start the second half. The Pack kept it a one-possession game until midway through the fourth quarter when the Mountaineers embarked on a 10-0 that lasted three minutes and put them in front 82-69. They went on to win 83-73.

Individual Highlights:
- JaNaiya Davis (Jr., Waco, Texas) filled the stats sheet with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Defensively, Davis came away with five steals and swatted two two blocks.  She went 6-for-12 from the field, including a 2-of-3 performance from beyond the ark. Davis also sank 6-of-7 from the line.
 
- Jazzy Hughes (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.)  scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She also added four steals and five rebounds.
 
- Aubriana Noti (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) delivered 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from range. Noti pulled down seven boards.

"This is the kind of effort we need to have more consistently so we can win the games we are supposed to win and then pick off a team like this," said CSU Pueblo Head Basketball Coach Tommie Johnson.

Notes:
-With her seven assists, Davis passed both Sharla Dix and Katie Cunningham to move into seventh place all-time at CSU Pueblo with 279 career assists. She needs 12 more assists to move into sixth place.
 
- The Pack made 58.1 percent of its shots in the first half including 55.6 percent from downtown. The ThunderWolves shot a season-best 47.5 percent from range and 44.4 percent from deep.
 
Up Next:
The ThunderWolves will begin a two-game road trip with visit to Golden, Colo. to play Colorado School of Mines Friday, Jan. 29. Game time between the Pack and Orediggers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
