Davis’ Buzzer Beater lifts Pack over UCCS 59-56

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 14, 2020) -  As time expired a tie game, JaNaiya Davis drained a 3-pointer that gave Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball a 59-56 victory over University of Colorado  Colorado Springs Friday at Massari Arena.
 
Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) finished with 14 points including a pair of 3-pointers. She also added nine assists. Davis hauled in five rebounds. Defensively, she contributed three steals and a block.
 
Olivia Klaman (Jr., Melbourne, Australia) led the Pack with 15 points. Klaman sank five 3-pointers.
 
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) scored 12 points. Williams also brought down eight rebounds.
 
Khiya Adams (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) tacked on 10 points. Adams came up with three steals.
 
The buzzer beater theme started in the first quarter for the Pack.  Kansas Watts (So., Houston, Texas) knocked down a jumper with one second left in the first quarter. Watts' buzzer beater put the Pack up 20-11 after one.
 
Klaman sank a 3-pointer to start the second quarter to put the Pack up double-digits. Williams followed with a 3-pointer of her own moments later to give the Pack a 13-point lead, its biggest lead of the game. UCCS clawed back within eight at halftime, 34-26.
 
The Mountain Lions fought back in the third quarter, cutting the Pack's lead to as little as three. CSU-Pueblo held a 49-45 edge entering the fourth.
 
With 3:25 left in the fourth, UCCS tied the game at 52. The Mountain Lions took their first lead of the game with two minutes left in regulation, seizing a 56-54 advantage.
 
Watts tied the game with 35 seconds remaining. UCCS missed a layup with eight seconds left and turned the ball over with five seconds remaining. As time ran out, Davis threw a desperation heave that tickled the twine and gave the Pack a 59-56 win.
 
CSU-Pueblo made a season-high 10 3-pointers, making 38.5 percent from the field. They held UCCS to just one 3-pointer. 
 
The Pack also held a 48-34 advantage on the glass. Reilly Dunn (So.., Fort Collins, Colo.) collected a career-high eight rebounds.
 
The ThunderWolves will look to keep their momentum going Saturday when they host Colorado School of Mines at 5:30 p.m.
