Furious 4th Quarter Launches Pack WBB to Victory

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 18, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball rode a dominating second half performance to a 78-67 win over Chadron State College Saturday at Massari Arena.
 
Down 38-28 at the half the Pack outscored the Eagles 50-29 in the second half. The ThunderWolves caught fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 31 points and making 12-of-18 from the field. The Pack scored 50 points in a half for the first time since Feb. 18, 2017.
 
JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) scored a career-high 30 points. Davis made 12-of-19 from range and 4-of-8 from downtown. Her four 3-pointers matched a career-high set one night earlier. Davis completed the double-double with 12 rebounds, which also matched a career-high. She added five assists, two steals, and a block.
 
Davis did most of her damage in the second half with 24 points. She is the first Pack player to reach 30 points since Jan. 21, 2017. Davis also played all 40 minutes of the game.
 
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Five of Williams' boards came on the offensive glass. Williams went 5-of-9 from the field and added three free throws. On the defensive side, Williams set a career-high with five blocks.
 
Khiya Adams (Sr., Falcon, Colo.)  contributed 13 points. Kansas Watts (So., Houston, Texas) totaled 10 points and seven boards.
 
The Pack went on the attack early, scoring the game's first eight points. The Eagles rallied with a 14-4 run that put them in front for the first time. A pair of threes by Olivia Klaman (Jr., Melbourne, Australia) propelled the Pack to an 18-17 lead after one.
 
Chadron State countered in the second quarter with a 13-3 run to start the stanza. They carried a 38-28 edge into the break.  The Eagles went 3-of-3 from downtown in the second quarter.
 
In the third quarter, the Eagles scored the first five points to take a game-high 15- point lead. The Pack answered back with a 10-1 run that cut the Eagle-lead to five. They continued to chip away at the deficit and trailed by two, 49-47, after three. 
 
Davis took over in the fourth. She knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Pack its first lead since the second quarter. Davis would score 17 in the fourth quarter alone. Holding a 59-58 edge, the Pack went on a 9-0 run that  propelled them to a 78-67 victory.
 
Saturday's win was the Pack's first home win of the season and it came in front of 1,346 fans. It also marked the first home victory for Head Coach Tommie Johnson.
 
The ThunderWolves will continue their four-game homestand Friday Jan. 24 when they host South Dakota School Mines & Technology. The Pack and Hardrockers will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at Massari Arena.
