PUEBLO, Colo. (January 17, 2020) – JaNaiya Davis totaled 25 points for Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball, but it was not enough as the ThunderWolves dropped a 57-51 final to Metro State University Denver Friday.
Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) accounted for nearly half of the Pack's offense with her 25-point outburst. She sank 10-of-15 from the field including a career-high four 3-pointers. Her four treys doubled her previous career-best and is the most by a ThunderWolf this season. Davis also claimed seven rebounds and three steals.
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) hauled in 15 rebounds. The 15 rebounds set a new career-high for Williams. The 15 boards were the most by a ThunderWolf since March 9, 2018 when
Katie Cunningham had 17 rebounds against the Roadrunners. Williams had seven points.
Harmony Pettis (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the Pack's best shooter at the charity stripe, making 5-of-6. Pettis finished with nine points and two steals.
The Pack locked down the Roadrunners for the first three minutes of the game. Once the Roadrunners got on the board, they unleashed a 13-0 run to make it 13-3. MSU Denver led 15-8 after one.
In the second quarter, the Pack came out on fire, scoring the first six points of the quarter. They remained within a basket for most of the second quarter until the last 1:22 of the half when the Roadrunners used a 5-0 run to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room. Davis scored 15 points in the first half.
With 5:35 left in the third, Davis hit a layup to cut the Roadrunner lead to one. MSU Denver scored seven of the next nine points to make it 41-35. They held a 45-38 advantage after three.
The Pack clawed their way as close as three with 4:449 left to play. However, the Pack could not complete the comeback in a 57-51 loss. Both teams struggled at the free-throw line. MSU Denver made 50.0 percent (7-of-14), while Pack made 47.8 percent (11-of-23) at the line.
The ThunderWolves will host Chadron State College Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's game is Take A Kid To a Game Night at Massari Arena.
All kids 17 & under will receive free admission to Saturday's game. Denver Nuggets Super Mascot Rocky will perform at Saturday's contest courtesy of the Shandy Clinic. Rocky will take the court during both the men's and women's basketball games.
There will also be a Kid Zone with coloring and face painting stations. The Pack Women and Men's Basketball teams will also sign autographs Saturday night. Soft drinks will be provided courtesy of Pepsi to kids at Saturday Night's game.
