Pack outlasted by Mountaineers 61-50

GUNNISON, Colo. (January 10, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball had an upset of Western Colorado University in their sights, but the Mountaineers beat the Pack 61-50 Friday at Paul Wright Gymnasium.
 
The Pack held a 42-40 lead after three quarters. However, the Pack offense went quiet in the fourth, scoring eight points.
 
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) powered the Pack's offensive attack with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Williams also made four-of-five from the line. She hauled in nine rebounds. Williams also swatted three blocks and added two steals.
 
Kansas Watts (So., Houston, Texas) scored 11 points. Watts sank 5-of-9 from the field. She collected six rebounds.
 
JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) secured six steals. She also had eight rebounds and six points.
 
The Mountaineers scored the final six points of the first quarter. This run put the home team up 16-11 after one.
 
After a Western Colorado 3-pointer, the Pack unleashed a run of its own. The ThunderWolves used a 12-4 run to tie the game at 23. Western Colorado scored the final four points of the half to take a 27-23 lead at the break.
 
The Pack raced out of the locker room in the second half, using an 11-1 run to reclaim the lead. The ThunderWolves led by as many as five and held a two-point lead heading into the fourth.
 
CSU-Pueblo and Western Colorado traded the lead early in the fourth quarter. The Pack went scoreless for the final three minutes and the Mountaineers made the free throws to snag a 61-50 lead.
 
The Pack will wrap up its road trip Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. when they face Colorado Mesa University.
