Pack sweeps SEOSU for first win of 2019

DURANT, Okla. (September 13, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball earned its first win of the 2019 season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State University at the Southeastern Classic.

After dropping their morning match in five sets to University of Texas-Tyler, the Pack responded  by holding the host institution to a .083 hitting percentage. This defensive masterpiece helped the Pack pick up the first win of the Austin Albers era.
 
The Pack used a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead in the first set against the Savage Storm. They rolled to a 25-18 win in set one. CSU-Pueblo used three 5-1 runs in game two in a dominating 25-14 set win. They held the Savage Storm to a -.028 hitting clip in the second set.

Despite jumping out to a 10-3 lead in set three, the Pack found themselves down 23-22 late in the third. Facing the possibility of a fourth set, the Pack rattled off three consecutive points as kills from juniors Maddy Wisniewski and Grace Miles (,Parker, Colo.) gave the Pack a 24-23 lead. Miles and Kennede Jones (Fr., Garland, Texas) came up with a block to give the Pack a 25-23 set win and clinch the match.

Brooke Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) led the Pack with eight kills in the win. She also added 12 digs.

Jazzy Espinoza (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) had six blocks and six kills in the victory. She also dropped in two aces. Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) had 15 digs and also aced two serves.

Wisniewski  (Jr., highlands Ranch, Colo.) had seven kills in the win. She led the Pack in the morning match with 11 kills. Kelsey Bell (Sr., Los Lunas, N.M.) narrowly missed a double-double in the second match, finishing with 13 assists and nine digs.

The Pack lost the first two sets of the morning match. CSU-Pueblo answered by winning the third and fourth set. The ThunderWolves hit -.034 in the final set as the Patriots took the set 15-10 and claimed the match victory.

CSU-Pueblo now stands at 1-5. They will look for a pair of victories Saturday when they play University of Arkansas Monticello at 10 a.m. (MST) and Southern Nazarene University at 2 p.m. (MST)
