Pack suffer RMAC loss at Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY (April 5, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-5 loss at Rockhurst University Friday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road contest. 

The ThunderWolves (4-6, 1-3 RMAC) struggled on offense, while the Hawks (7-6, 4-2 RMAC) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and owned a 10-2 advantage in the second half to put the Pack away. 

RU finished with 34 shots with 28 on goal, while the Pack totaled 16 shots with 11 on frame. The home team totaled 14 draw controls to the road team's nine. Ground balls were close, as Rockhurst had 16 and CSU-Pueblo totaled 14. The ThunderWolves had 22 turnovers and forced 17 turnovers by the Hawks. 

Freshman Caylie Wagner (A, Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored twice off the bench for her first-career multi-goal game. She scored once on a free position shot and added one ground ball. Sophomore attack Emily Eller (Keller, Texas) also scored twice on three shots on goal. She also scored on a free position attempt and added a caused turnover. 

The other goal was scored by sophomore Olivia Tener (M, Boise, Idaho). She totaled two draw controls and a ground ball. 

Defender Britney Smith (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) led the team with three ground balls and added a caused turnover. Freshman Tayllor Diem (Eagle, Idaho) gathered four draw controls to lead the Pack. 

CSU-Pueblo trailed 3-0 just six minutes into the game before Wagner netted her first of the day with 18:07 showing on the game clock. RU would go on to score three more in a row before Tener ended the scoring for the first half when she potted a goal with 7:55 left.

Four consecutive tallies by the Hawks to open the first nine minutes of the second half would hand the home team a 10-2 lead. Eller scored back-to-back goals just 38 seconds apart to move the score to 10-4 with 20 minutes remaining in the game.

Rockhurst scored twice before Wagner found the netting for her second goal of the game with 6:56 remaining. RU went on to score the final four goals of the conference contest to close with the 16-5 victory. 

The ThunderWolves now travel to No. 4 Lindenwood University for a RMAC matchup Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. MT.
