ST. GEORGE, UTAH (March 31, 2019) – Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball took a 16-5 loss in their series finale against No. 25 Dixie State University Sunday at Bruce Hurst Field.
Despite the loss, the Pack split its road series with the Trailblazers. They now stand 15-14 overall. CSU-Pueblo owns a 10-6 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Trailblazers improved to 22-8 (12-4 RMAC).
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) slugged three hits in five trips. Sauceda scored two runs and picked up a RBI. The Pack's first baseman also mashed a double.
Rion Santamaria (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) added two hits in five trips.
Connor Hughes (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) crushed a triple. Hughes scored a run and finished 1-for-3.
Aidan Welch (So., Seattle, Wash.) went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
The Pack pushed the game's first run across.
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) plated Sauceda with a single in the first inning.
Dixie State countered with a run in the first. They added two in the second to take a 3-1 lead.
Sauceda scored on a wild pitch in the third. Welch doubled and came across on a
Jesse Holguin (Fr., Colton, Calif.) sacrifice fly in the fourth to tie the game.
The Pack took the lead later in the fourth. Hughes tripled and subsequently scored on a Sauceda single that made it 4-3. The ThunderWolves added to their lead in the fifth when
JP Hopkins (R-Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) scored on another wild pitch to make it 5-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Trailblazers reclaimed the lead with three runs to make it 6-5. They would tack on 10 more runs, including eight runs in the seventh to clinch a series split.
The ThunderWolves will return home for a four-game series with No. 1 Colorado Mesa University. This four-game series between the Pack and their rivals, the Mavericks, starts Friday at 6 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
