A walk off and a blow out lead Pack past Beavers twice

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 1, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball swept its Friday doubleheader against Minot State University at Rawlings Field. The Pack took game one 7-6 and dominated the Beavers in game two, winning 17-2.

A walk off hit from Adrian Martinez (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.)  completed the Pack's rally in game one. They trailed in game one 5-0. Martinez finished game one 1-for-1 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI. He also walked.

Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) went 3-for-3 in game one with two runs scored. Sauceda also walked and drove in a run. He had the Pack's lone extra base hit in game one with a double.

Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) dominated in game two. Adler had four hits in four trips. He scored four runs in game two and drove in three more runs. Adler also stole his first base, walked, and hit his first double.

Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) knocked in four runs in game two. Popham went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. He walked twice and hit a double. The Pack's third baseman scored and had a RBI in game one.

Game two starter Josh Dahl (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) earned his first win with the Pack. Dahl struck out 10 Beavers in five innings of work. He allowed just one run, three hits, and two walks. Dahl has 33 strikeouts in 20 innings this season.

Beau Brieske (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) fanned 12 batters in game one in 5.2 innings pitched. Briekse's 12 strikeouts matched his season-high. The righty leads the RMAC with 41 strikeouts in just 20.2 innings pitched.

However, Brieske surrendered six runs and the Pack trailed 5-0 in the first game. The Pack rallied within two, making it 5-3. The Beavers scored one more in the sixth to make it 6-3. With the bases loaded, the Pack turned to Timmy Burtzloff (Sr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Burtzloff got of the jam and kept the Pack within striking distance.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Pack scored three runs to tie the game. Martinez scored the tying run, when Aidan Welch (So., Seattle, Wash.) was hit by a pitch. Eight Pack batters were plunked in game one.

The Beavers threatened to break things open in the top of the seventh and final inning. Minot State once again loaded the bases. Andrew Coverly (Jr., Centennial, Colo.) got back-to-back strikeouts to once again wiggle out of trouble.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Pack returned the favor by loading the bases thanks to an error and two hit batsmen. With one out, Martinez smacked a single through the left side to bring in Sauceda and give the Pack a 7-6 win.

The Pack got off to a great start in game two, striking for two runs in the first inning. Adler and Popham hit back-to-back doubles. Popham scored on a Martinez single.
