ThunderWolves post 18-5 victory against Falcons

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 11, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team scored 14 of its 18 goals in the first half to cruise to an 18-5 victory Monday against Notre Dame College (Ohio) at the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
 
The ThunderWolves (2-2) dominated all areas of the game in the win against the Falcons (2-1). CSU-Pueblo totaled 26 shots to NDC's 11. The Pack won 15 of 23 draw controls, forced 15 Falcon turnovers and were a perfect 11-for-11 on clear attempts. 
 
CSU-Pueblo also converted on two of three extra-player opportunities and won ground balls 10-8. 
 
Senior attack Allison Wurscher (Tigard, Ore.) led the offense with six points, which included five assists. She totaled three shots on goal with one ground ball and one caused turnover. 
 
Senior Taylor Christensen (M, Colorado Springs, Colo.) potted four goals for the second straight game. She scored the four goals on six shots and added one ground ball and one caused turnover. 
 
Two other players recorded hat tricks, as junior Elyse Ingram (M, San Jose, Calif.) scored her seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season to tie for the season lead with Christensen. Ingram tied for the team lead with two ground balls and had one caused turnover. 
 
Sophomore Kennedi Cantrell (Long Beach, Calif.) had a career-high three goals on three shots. 
 
Attackers Ali Doyle (Jr., Portland, Ore.) and Emily Eller (So., Keller, Texas) each had two goals to get in on the scoring. 
 
Sophomore Olivia Tener (A, Boise, Idaho) added a goal as a starter, while Hope Lambert (Jr., D, Pueblo West, Colo.) and Caylie Wagner (Fr., A, Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored off the bench. Lambert added an assist, while the goal for Wagner was the first of her career. 
 
Sophomore Morgan Monaghan (D, Dublin, Ohio) came off the bench and tied for the team lead with two ground balls. Goalie Ane Marie Horton (Sr., Long Beach, Calif.) totaled three saves. 
 
It took just two minutes for the ThunderWolves to get on the board, as Ingram potted an unassisted goal. Three and half minutes later the Pack led 4-0 on goals by Doyle, a player-up tally by Tener and a free position goal by Christensen. 
 
The Falcons scored with 22:09 remaining in the opening half, but the home team came back with nine unanswered goals to break open a 13-1 lead with 5:56 left in the frame. During the stretch Ingram completed her hat trick, which included a player-up goal and both Cantrell and Christensen scored twice. 
 
After a NDC goal stopped the run, Cantrell scored her third of the day with just six seconds left to hand the ThunderWolves a 14-2 lead at the break. 
 
After Christensen netted her fourth of the day, the Falcons scored twice within two minutes of each other and the scoreboard read 15-5 midway through the second half. The ThunderWolves defense would tighten back up and the Pack scored the final three goals with Lambert closing the scoring with an unassisted effort with 4:27 left in the game. 
 
CSU-Pueblo will take its momentum from a two-game win streak into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season, as the ThunderWolves travel to University of Colorado Colorado Springs Thursday, March 14 for a match beginning at 5 p.m.
