PUEBLO, Colo. (November 9, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball finished on the wrong side of a 77-44 final score in their game against Texas A&M University Commerce Saturday at Massari Arena.
The Pack went 0-2 in the 36
th annual Al Kaly Shrine Classic.
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Williams averaged 13.0 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game in her first two contests of the season.
Saturday saw Williams score 11 points and haul in nine boards. She had two blocks in the loss.
Kansas Watts (So., Houston, Texas) matched Williams with two blocks. She had seven points on 3-of-5 shooting before fouling out.
JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) led the Pack with 12 points.
Khiya Adams (Sr., Falcon, Colo.) had seven rebounds and a team-high three assists.
The Pack raced out to a 7-0 lead. The Lions tied it at 11 and took a 16-13 lead after one quarter.
CSU-Pueblo scored the first six points of the second quarter. A 3-pointer by
Harmony Pettis (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) gave the Pack its last lead of the night at 19-16. The Lions finished the first half on a 19-6 run that propelled them to a 35-24 lead at halftime.
A comeback was not in the cards for the Pack. They shot 21.4 percent from the field in the second half en route to a 77-44 loss.
The Lions made 51.4 percent from range in the second half. Commerce improved to 2-0.
CSU-Pueblo will seek its first win of the season Saturday, Nov. 16 when they visit Regis University. This non-conference game between Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams starts at 3p.m.
