Johnson picks up first win as Pack rallies past Rangers

DENVER, Colo. (November 16, 2019) – Down as many as 15 points, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball rallied to knock off Regis University 68-63 in overtime Saturday at the Regis Fieldhouse.
 
Tommie Johnson earned his first win as the Head Coach of the Pack Women's Basketball team. Johnson's Pack now stands 1-2 on the season.
 
JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) took over the game for the Pack. Davis scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. She sank 10-of-12 from the line. Davis added five assists and four steals. She had a career-high four blocks. Davis achieved a double-double with 12 rebounds, also a career-best.
 
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) totaled 18 points. Williams drained 5-of-10 from the field and 7-of-12 from the line. She had two blocks.
 
Khiya Adams (Sr., Falcon, Colo.) picked up 10 points before fouling out. She added seven rebounds.
 
When her sister fouled out, Jade Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) made an impact. Adams scored seven points. She had a career-high 10 rebounds and two blocks.
 
The Pack got off to a slow start. A 10-0 run gave the Rangers a 22-9 lead. They led 24-11 after one.
 
In the second quarter, the Rangers boosted their lead to a game-high 15. The Pack remained behind 13 at the half, 36-23.
 
CSU-Pueblo started to rally in the third quarter. The Pack started the second half on an 8-1 run. They won the third quarter 18-11 to make it 47-41. Williams scored seven points in the third.
 
Despite their second half surge, the Pack trailed until there was 46 seconds left in regulation. Davis drained a layup to tie the game at 56. A pair of Regis free throws were countered by Davis who sank two at the line with nine seconds left. The Pack thwarted Regis' attempt to win the game and forced overtime.
 
The Pack scored the first four points of the extra period. They would never trail again as the ThunderWolves pulled away with a 68-63 win.  Davis scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
 
CSU-Pueblo will compete at the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 29-30. The ThunderWolves open play in this tournament Friday Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. against Eastern New Mexico University.
