Pack pushes No. 17 Regis to five sets

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 4, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball fought No. 17 Regis University for five sets, but in the end the Rangers outlasted the ThunderWolves 3-2 (15-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 11-15) at Massari Arena.
 
Brooke Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) picked up her third double-double of the season. Schilling led the Pack with 16 kills. She added 10 digs, three blocks, and three aces.
 
Maddy Wisniewski (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also reached the 10 kill plateau. She finished with two blocks.
 
Coming off the bench, Grace Jansen (Fr., South Jordan, Utah) dished out 17 assists. Jansen also achieved eight digs and put down a pair of aces. All of these set career highs for Jansen. Grace Hern  (So., Omaha, Neb.) led the Pack with 19  assists.
 
Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) led the Pack with 15 digs. Meltzer also guided the Pack on a crucial run form the service line in the third set that flipped momentum in favor of the home team. She finished with three aces.
 
Diamond'Nique Young (Fr., Fresno, Calif. ) swatted five blocks. Young also batted down seven kills.
 
The No. 17 ranked Rangers raced out to lead by winning the first two sets. They held the Pack to negative hitting percentages in the first two sets.
 
CSU-Pueblo responded in the third. The Pack used a 5-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. They cruised to a 25-16 set win. The 16 points was the second-lowest total the Rangers have scored in a set this season. The Pack hit .480 in the third set.
 
The Pack took control of fourth set at a similar point. A 4-0 run gave the Pack a 16-11 lead. The ThunderWolves kept the Rangers away for the rest of the set, winning set four 25-20 and forcing a decisive fifth set. Schilling had seven kills in the fourth set.
 
In the fifth set, the Pack built an 8-4 lead thanks to a 4-0 run.  CSU-Pueblo led the fifth set 11-8. However, the Rangers went on a 7-0 run to close out the win.
 
With the loss, the Pack fell to 5-9. They now sit 3-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Regis improved to 11-3 (5-1 RMAC).
 
The Pack will continue their four-match homestand Saturday against Colorado Christian University. First serve at Massari Arena is set for 5 p.m.
