PUEBLO, Colo. (October 26, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball dominated Chadron State College in a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-21, 25-12) Saturday at Massari Arena.
The Pack outhit the Eagles .314 to .070. CSU-Pueblo came up with 70 digs, just eight shy of the school record for a three-set match. It was a team-win for the Pack who also finished with nine blocks.
The win vaults the Pack to a 10-12 record. They are now 7-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. With 10 wins and seven RMAC victories this season, the Pack now has more overall and conference victories than they had in each of the last two seasons combined. Chadron State fell to 13-8 (7-5 RMAC).
Grace Hern (So., Omaha, Neb.) dished out 27 assists. Hern narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs. She dropped three of the Pack's five aces.
Sarah Vang (Sr., Park, Colo.) also just missed a double-double. Vang had nine kills. She totaled 10 digs.
Diamond'Nique Young (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) swatted a match-high six blocks. Young had 10 kills. She finished with a .389 hitting percentage.
Payton Stack (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) led the Pack with a .444 hitting percentage. Stack smacked down eight kills and came up with five blocks.
Brooke Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) knocked down a team-high 11 kills. Schilling hit .333 for the match.
Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) averaged 7.0 digs per set, finishing with 21 total digs. Meltzer had 11 digs in the second set alone.
Page Heller (Sr., Vancouver, Wash.) totaled 14 digs. She dropped in an ace for the Pack.
The Pack raced out to a 6-1 lead in the first set. A 5-0 Pack run later in the set made it 19-9. The ThunderWolves closed the set on 5-1 run that made it a 25-13 set win for the home team. Young had five kills and four blocks in the first set.
In set two, the Pack used a 4-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. The Eagles closed within one later in the set, but could not get take the lead as the Pack held on to win the second set 25-21.
With the third set tied at four, the Pack went on an eight-point run with Meltzer serving. The Eagles would never get closer than five. The Pack scored the final five points of the match and clinched the win with Heller's ace.
After a 2-1 homestand, the Pack will hit the road for four matches. The ThunderWolves;' road trip starts Friday at 6 p.m. when they visit Westminster College.
