Pack flies past Rangers in five sets

PUEBLO, COLO. (OCTOBER 22, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball outlasted Northwestern Oklahoma State University (25-11, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11) in a five set showdown Tuesday at Massari Arena.
 
The Pack improved to 9-11. With their ninth victory, the Pack has matched its win total from the past two seasons combined. The ThunderWolves finished with 69 kills and 101 digs, both season highs. NWOSU fell to 16-9.
 
Kelsey Bell, Grace Hern, and Brooke Schilling all had double-doubles. Hern (So., Omaha, Neb.) led the Pack with 30 assists and contributed 14 digs. Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) totaled 21 digs and 12 kills. Bell (Sr., Los Lunas, N.M.) added 22 assists and 12 digs.
 
Sarah Vang (Sr., Parker, Colo.) led the Pack with 15 kills. Vang had five kills and hit .444 in the first set. Maddy Wisniewski (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) knocked down 11 kills.
 
Jazzy Espinoza (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) filled the stat sheet with nine kills, seven assists, six blocks and six digs.  Espinoza hit .261 for the match.
 
Page Heller (Sr., Vancouver, Wash.) came up with a season-high 21 digs. Libero Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) collected 15 digs and six assists.
 
The Pack dominated the first set thanks to a .571 hitting percentage. An 8-0 run gave the Pack a 13-4 lead they would never look back from as they took the first set 25-11.
 
NWOSU bounced back. The Rangers won the second set, 25-23, and the third set, 25-21.
 
Down two sets to one, the Pack rallied in the fourth.  Espinoza knocked down five kills and had three blocks to lead the Pack to a 25-21 set win and force a fifth and decisive set.
 
In the fifth, the two teams battled neck and neck. With the match tied at 10, the Pack went on a 5-1 run to put away the Rangers and complete the 15-11 victory.
 
The ThunderWolves will continue their three-match homestand Friday when they host Metro State University Denver. First serve at Massari Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
