Schilling’s 20 kills spook Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 19, 2019) – With 20 kills from Brooke Schilling, Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball downed University of Colorado Colorado Springs in four sets (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-23) Saturday.
 
Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 14 digs. She hit .471 for the match. Her 20 kills stand as a season-high and are the most by a ThunderWolf this season. Schilling knocked down 10 kills in the first set alone. Her 14 digs also led the Pack.
 
Grace Hern (So., Omaha, Neb.) had a season-high 29 assists. Kelsey Bell (Sr., Los Lunas, N.M.) finished with 16 assists.
 
Diamond'Nique Young (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) totaled six blocks including two solo swats. Young finished with eight kills and hit .333 for the match.  Fellow middle blocker Jazzy Espinoza (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) ended up with four blocks. She had four kills on four attacks for a perfect hitting percentage.
 
Maddy Wisniewski (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) pummeled down 11 kills. Wisniewski finished with three blocks.
 
Page Heller (Sr., Vancouver, Wash.) posted 13 digs for the second time in three matches. Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) collected 11 digs.
 
Schilling stole the show with 10 kills in the first set. She had the last four kills of the set, leading the Pack to a 25-22 set win.
 
With the second set tied at 10, the Pack went on an 11-1 run. The Mountain Lions scored seven of the next eight points to close with four. The Pack scored the final three points to take the second set 25-18.
 
The Mountain Lions used an 11-3 run to take the third set 25-19. They led by as many as six in the fourth set.
 
With the Pack trailing the fourth set 23-18, Sarah Vang (Sr., Parker, Colo.) sparked the Pack's 7-0 match clinching rally. Vang had three kills in the final seven points. Espinoza had two blocks in that span.
 
Both teams now stand 8-11 overall. They both have 6-5 records in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The win was the Pack's first over UCCS since 2014. CSU-Pueblo also picked up four points in the Steel & Silver trophy standings with the win.
 
CSU-Pueblo will return home for a three-match homestand. They will face Northwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference match at Massari Arena.
