PUEBLO, Colo. (February 9, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs will split the squads this weekend with some competing at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan and the rest of the teams at the Adams State University NCAA Qualifier. The meets are scheduled to run Friday and Saturday.

Eight men and four women will compete at the GVSU Big Meet, which is actually two meets with one running Friday and the other Saturday. Most of the male athletes competing have solid times nationally in their events, but senior Dueth Vassell (Denver, Colo.) will look to run a faster 400m time Friday. He enters the weekend ranked 23rd nationally with a time of 48.42. For the women, sophomore Gillian Maness (Kalispell, Mont.) wil run the 3000m with hopes of improving her NCAA provisional time of 9:59.49 that ranks 32nd nationally. Also on the women's side, the distance medley relay team is set to compete. The squad of Maness, Yasmine Hernandez (Fr., Johnstown, Colo.), Nicole Bouma (Fr., Kalispell, Mont.) and Miriam Roberts (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) will attempt to improve on the team's top time of 11:55.51, which ranks 11th in Division II.

Reigning USTFCCCA National Divsion II Runner of the Week and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week Thomas Staines (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) will not run in the 800m, which he ranks as the fastest in Division II this year, but will compete in the 400m dash and mile events.

At the ASU meet, Angelique Urenda (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Lauren Fairchild (So., McKinney, Texas) will compete in events where they have NCAA provisional marks. Urenda is currently 13th nationally in the pole vault, while Fairchild is 21st in the long jump.

In this week's USTFCCCA national computer ranks, the Pack men moved up a spot to No. 7.
