PUEBLO, Colo. (Oct. 18, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo Head Wrestling Coach Dax Charles is set to begin his 11th season as head coach and over the summer was busy gearing up for the new campaign. He announced 11 new additions to the team, as the program has started official training sessions.
CSU-Pueblo was picked to finish first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season the ThunderWolves finished 11th at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and were runner-up at the RMAC Championships.
Adrian Salas, R-Jr., 184/197, Clovis, Calif., Clovis HS, Clackamas CC, Boise State
2015-16 (Jr., Boise State): Redshirt season… Went 9-2 while wrestling unattached at 197 pounds, including four pins and a technical fall … Captured the title at the Spokane Open (Nov. 22), going 5-0 with three pins … Second pin of the tournament came in 20 seconds, his fastest of the season … Finished fifth at the Reno Tournament of Champions (Dec. 20), going 4-2 with a pin and a technical fall.Â
2014-15 (So., Clackamas CC):Â Captured the Junior College National Championship at 184 pounds during the 2013-14 season for head coach Josh Rhodan ... Went 30-3 on the season.
2013-14 (Fr., Clackamas CC):Â Competed for Clackamas.
Clovis HS:Â Four-year letter winner went a combined 158-15 for head coach Steve Tirapelle ... Won a state title as a senior, capping a 41-1 season ... Captured four league championships ... Won back-to-back Master and Valley Championships is a junior and senior ... Named Cal-Hi Sports DI Athlete of the Year in 2013 ... Also went 39-3 as a junior, 38-3 as a sophomore and 40-8 as a freshman ... Finished fourth at the CIF State Tournament as a junior and seventh as a sophomore ... Also lettered three times in football and once in track and field ... On the gridiron, earned second-team all-state honors.

2016-18 (Iowa Western): A two-time NJCAA All-American at Iowa Western ... Finished the NJCAA National Championships in fourth at 133 in 2018 to help the team finish fifth ... Was 6th at 133 in 2017 to help the team finish sixth ... In two seasons totaled 123 takedowns (second most in program history) with six major decisions ... In 2017 finished with five major decisions and 69 takedowns ... An Academic All-Region XI honoree.
Lake Highlands HS:Â A two-time UIL state placer ... A UIL state runner-up ... Earned All-American honors with USA Folkstyle.

Haszell West "Bam Bam", R-Jr., 184/197, Portland, Ore., Jefferson HS, Clackamas CC, Newberry College
2017-18 (Jr., Newberry): The Clackamas CC transfer finished his season with a 11-3 record ... Went 2-0 in major decisions and 2-1 in falls ... Finished in 5th place at the Wolfpack Open after dropping just one match against Tanner Orndorff of Utah Valley ... Was perfect at the Newberry Duals, picking up four wins.
2014-17 (RS, Fr., So., Clackamas CC): Earned NJCAA All-American honors twice ... Finished second at 184 in 2017 and third at 184 in 2016 at the NJCAA National Championships ... A two-time Western Region Champion to help the team to two region titles ... Redshirted the 2014-15 season.
Jefferson HS: Claimed the OSAA 5A 182-pound State Championship as a senior ... Finished the season 31-2 ... Was third at 170 as a junior.

2016-18 (Fr., So., Clackamas CC): Earned 2018 NJCAA All-American honors at 157 after finishing fourth at the national championships to help guide the Cougars to a runner-up finish.
Decatur HS:Â The News Tribune 2014-15 Male Senior Athlete of the Year ... Was a three-time state wrestling medalist ... Finished second at 152 in the 3A state championships as a senior ... Won the 3A title as a junior with a 37-3 record to help the team to a runner-up finish ... Was third at the state championships as a sophomore ... Also a standout on the football field he finished his senior year second in all-purpose yards in the 4A SPSL ... Played receiver, running back, defensive back, kick returner and quarterback in high school ... Reached the state track and field championships ... Posted a 3.56 prep GPA.Â

Decatur HS: Won the 2016 6A Oregon State Championship at 145 as senior after finishing runner-up as a junior and sophomore ... Was the No. 1 seed entering the state championships and finished the season 22-0.Â

Selma HS:Â A High School All-American, as he finished fifth ... Two-time CIF State Medalist ... Placed fifth at 160 as a senior and seventh at 160 as a junior at the state championships ... Two-time Division II Valley Champion ... Four-time Central Sequoia League Champion.Â

The team's first competition is the Cowboy Open Nov. 3, hosted by the University of Wyoming. CSU-Pueblo will host a home scrimmage against Otero Junior College Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Massari Arena.Â
