Marchena's two goals lead Pack to shutout victory at Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (September 20, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo senior Matt Marchena (F, Littleton, Colo.) led the men's soccer team to a 4-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win Sunday against Colorado Christian University at Trailblazer Stadium.

The ThunderWolves got on the board first in the 12th minute, benefitting from a Cougars defender knocking in the ball into their own goal.

CSU-Pueblo added another goal in the 23rd minute when Marchena received a pass from TJ Thiebaut (Sr., D, Pueblo, Colo.) striking a shot past a diving goalkeeper.

"The first half was a good response after the tough game Friday," Pack head coach Roy Stanley said.

CSU-Pueblo stretched the lead to 3-0 before halftime on a goal by Sam Glawe (Sr., D, Allen, Tex.) who first a shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. Mackenzie Paquette (Jr., D, Phoenix, Ariz.) was credited with an assist.

It is Glawe's third goal of the season.

"We have been asking our guys to be more consistent," added Stanley, "they showed some of that today."

CSU-Pueblo led all statistical categories on the day including 25-12 on shots and held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.

Marchena put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game, in the 75th minute on a pass from Connor Marth (So., D, Tulsa, Okla.), connecting with the back of the net.

Marchena now has three goals scored on the year.

"Matt put himself into some good spots, overall he has been getting the opportunities and today he kept after it," Stanley added.

Pack goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) made four saves on twelve Cougars shots.

CSU-Pueblo (4-2-0, 1-1-0 RMAC) will continue play on the road next weekend with two nonconference games. Friday they will play at Fort Lewis College, followed with a Sunday matinee matchup against Adams State University.
