No. 2 CSU Pueblo Battles No. 23 UCCS to Scoreless Draw, Completes Unbeaten Regular Season

ThunderWolves finish regular season 13-0-3 overall and 7-0-3 in RMAC play; turn attention to conference tournament semifinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2026) – The No. 2 nationally ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team capped off an impressive unbeaten regular season Wednesday evening, battling No. 23 University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a 0-0 draw in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action at Mountain Lion Stadium.

With the result, CSU Pueblo closes the regular season with a 13-0-3 overall record and an unbeaten 7-0-3 mark in RMAC play under first-year head coach Thomás Pazo Tourinho. The ThunderWolves enter postseason play as one of the nation's top teams, having gone through their entire 16-match regular season without suffering a defeat.

Wednesday's draw also moved UCCS to 10-2-6 overall and 5-2-3 in conference play.

In a defensive battle between two nationally ranked opponents, the ThunderWolves held a narrow 11-10 advantage in total shots while putting three attempts on goal compared to just one for the Mountain Lions. CSU Pueblo also controlled the corner kick battle, earning eight opportunities to UCCS's three.

Senior goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez anchored the ThunderWolves' defensive effort, recording one save across 90 minutes to earn another clean sheet. The CSU Pueblo back line limited the Mountain Lions to just one shot on goal despite facing 10 total attempts.

Offensively, João Lutz paced the Pack with a match-high five shots, including one on frame, while Nick Cenek followed with four attempts and two shots on goal. Matty Parkes and Modicai Jones each added one shot to round out CSU Pueblo's offensive production.

The ThunderWolves came out aggressive in the opening half, generating five shots and six corner kicks through the first 45 minutes. Cenek tested UCCS goalkeeper Hugo Sjoberg twice in the opening 18 minutes, forcing saves in the 12th and 18th minutes as CSU Pueblo looked to grab an early advantage.

On the opposite end, Gonzalez was called into action early, turning away a shot from Lucas Taitt in the sixth minute to preserve the scoreless tie.

Despite several opportunities for both sides, neither team could break through before halftime, sending the nationally ranked matchup into the break deadlocked at 0-0.

The second half featured another tightly contested 45 minutes, with CSU Pueblo outshooting UCCS 6-4. The ThunderWolves continued searching for the go-ahead goal but were unable to find the back of the net as the Mountain Lions held firm defensively.

Sjoberg finished with three saves for UCCS, while Gonzalez and the Pack defense secured the shutout to complete their unbeaten regular-season campaign.

The draw marked the third tie in conference play for CSU Pueblo, which completed its RMAC schedule without a loss and now shifts its focus toward the postseason.
