ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 14, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo's Leina Kim (Jr., Saipan, CNMI) climbed up the leaderboard on day two of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship at The Meadows golf course. Kim shot a 2-over 74 to move up 13 spots into a tie for seventh place entering Friday's third round. For the tournament, Kim sits at 8-over 152 and is within five shots of the leader.
Brenna Moore of Midwestern State started the day in a tie for fourth, but used a 1-over 73 to move into first place with a two-round score of 3-over 147. On the team side, University of Indianapolis (28-over 604) tallied a tournament-best round of 299 to open up a 16-shot lead over second place Central Oklahoma (44-over 620) and Rollins College (44-over 620).
Playing in the final group of the day, Kim opened round two with the back nine holes.
Kim started the day with three straight pars, before rolling in a pair of birdies to drop to 2-under on the day through the first five holes. Another par at hole No. 15 followed, but a double-bogey and two bogeys dropped her to 2-over heading to hole No. 1. Kim's mark of 2-over on the back nine was a three-shot improvement on her 5-over score from Wednesday.
Kim started her final nine holes by notching a birdie on the par-five first hole. The junior then recorded five straight pars to stay at 1-over for the afternoon. Kim wrapped up the round with a bogey at hole No. 7 and a par at both holes No. 8 and 9.
For the round, Kim improved around the pin, registering 26 putts compared to Wednesday's total of 35. She hit nine greens and 10 fairways.
Through the first two rounds, Kim has five birdies which is tied for sixth amongst the 71-player field. The Saipan, CNMI, native has played the par-five holes well, holding an average of even-par 5.00 through the first 36 holes.
Kim continues play at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship Friday. She will tee off in the second group, starting at 6:40 a.m. (MDT).
