No. 10 ThunderWolves roll to 56-0 victory at Adams State Saturday

ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 3, 2015) – The No. 10 Colorado State University-Pueblo football team rolled to a 56-0 victory at Adams State University, Saturday to improve to 3-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. 

The ThunderWolves (4-1, 3-0 RMAC) controlled the ground game on both sides of the ball all game, running for 386 yards, while the defense allowed just 10 rushing yards to Adams State (1-4, 1-2 RMAC).

The 386 yards is a best rushing effort for the ThunderWolves since the re-start in 2008. The second most was at Adams State Nov. 7, 2009 when CSU-Pueblo totaled 362 yards on the ground.

The 10 yards allowed marks the sixth time the Pack allowed 10 or less rushing yards, with the record standing at -4 rushing yards at New Mexico Highlands Nov. 9, 2013.

The Pack defense totaled six interceptions, which secured a new program record. The previous record was five, set five times previous (Eastern New Mexico, Aug. 29, 2009; New Mexico Highlands, 1977; Fort Hays State, 1977; Cameron, 1975; Washburn, 1972).

The shutout by the defense marked the eighth since 2008, while the point differential is the second best in that same time frame. The ThunderWolves defeated New Mexico Highlands University 66-0 Oct. 30, 2010.

The Pack totaled three 90-plus yard drives in the game, which marked the first time since the program was brought back in 2008 the Pack had done so.

Senior C. McDondle has rushed for more than 166 yards in each game this season. He totaled 203 yards and three touchdowns Saturday. He owns 24 career 100 yard games and three 200 yards games. His career best is 235 yards at Colorado Mines, Oct 13, 2012. He has three, three touchdown games this season. He owns 927 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015.

His brother, Bernard McDondle (So., Littleton, Colo.) totaled 191 yards and two touchdowns to mark the second time this season both brothers have gone for 100 or more yards. The two of them combined for 394 yards of offense, 140 more yards than the Grizzlies totaled in the game.

Sophomore tight end Zach Boyd (Fort Lupton, Colo.) totaled a career-best 140 yards and two touchdowns on three receptions.

The Pack totaled 592 yards of offense on 63 plays. The last time CSU-Pueblo racked up that many yards was when it totaled 638 Oct. 26, 2013 at Black Hills State University. In addition to three 90-plus yard drives, the ThunderWolves also recorded three one-play drives.

The defense was led in tackles by senior linebacker Joe Rosenbrock (Brush, Colo.), who tallied nine tackles and one sack. The Pack combined for five sacks (-38 yards). CSU-Pueblo entered the game ranked fifth nationally in sacks per game with 3.75.

Five of the six interceptions were recorded by redshirt freshman, as both Darius Williams (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Marcus Culhane (Arvada, Colo.) recorded two interceptions in the game. Junior Sam Singleton (Denver, Colo.) and Zach Young (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded the other two. Williams earned the start and totaled 93 return yards, which included a 53 yard return to the end zone. He added two pass breakups and one solo tackle.

Senior defensive end Morgan Fox (Fountain, Colo.) totaled three tackles and added to his NCAA Division II-best sack total with one (-9 yards) before leaving the game in the second half due to injury.

Senior kicker Greg O'Donnell (Monument, Colo.) was a perfect 8-for-8 on extra point attempts and averaged 48.4 yards on nine kickoffs. The Pack held the Grizzlies to an average of 21 yards per kickoff return. Senior Kieren Duncan (Goodyear, Ariz.) totaled 86 yards on four punt returns to average 21.5 yards per return.

With the win, the ThunderWolves improved to (Since 2008):
11-0 when rushing for 300 or more yards
9-0 when they have two players rush for more than 100 yards
38-0 when scoring 35 or more points
28-0 when holding the opponent to 10 points or less
37-3 when forcing three or more turnovers

The ThunderWolves return home Oct. 10 for a homecoming showdown against the only team to beat them in 2014, Fort Lewis University. The 2 p.m. kickoff also serves as the CSU-Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame game. The contest is set to air live on Comcast CET (105/900 HD in the Pueblo Area).
